From the original title, the NH x BR = delaware and asking which two breeds make a SS I took it as you were asking which two breeds you can cross to hatch chicks of a third breed...
My answer was none. Crossing two breeds together produce "hybrids". Thats all a hybrid is is two breeds crossed together.
Most breeds were created by a cross of other breeds. Sometimes two breeds and some times many breeds. One of the things that makes a breed a breed is that they breed true. When you cross two breeds those chicks bred together wont breed true. To create a breed you have to cross the two breeds then keep breeding the offspring for generations until you get to where the chicks are all the same and the same as the parents.
Of course that can take years to decades, a lot of selective breeding, hatching and culling thousands of chicks, etc etc.
So as you can see yes breeds were crossed to make other breeds but it isnt as simple as just crossing a couple breeds.
I think your title should of been " what breeds were used to create a new breed?"
