Hi, I'm looking for my first incubator. Yes, I blame this on all of you, I'm addicted. I'd like to know what style is best and what I should be looking for. I live in a log home and the room temps vary in the cool weather from 60 when we're away, to 100 when hubby gets the fire cranking. It's also very dry. So I assume I'll need something that can self regulate? I don't want to pay a fortune, but I don't want to be disappointed either.

Any suggestions?

You should get a Hovabator Genesis 1588 from GQF . It is the best, most reliable incubator for hobby hatching. If you can afford it get the turner - hand turning looses its novelty fairly quick.

The incubator is easy easy eays. Plug and play. Plug it in. Let the temp come up. Put in eggs and add water. Wait 21 days for chicks to hatch.

I agree with MP.....I've got 2 plus the older version and I wouldn't trade them.

ETA; I should say if someone offered me a Sportsman...then I might think about trading!!

Yes, we know. You like other models with a wafer thermostat.

Those wafer thermostats are not always the best idea for a beginner and someone not interested in having to constantly check the thermostat setting. They certainly are not plug n' play style.

I hate the wafer thermostats and will never recommend anyone purchase those if they can help it. even LG has stopped making those models and do use a solid stat thermostat in their newer incubators.

I learned on a wafer thermonstat without any problems

Everyone starts out a newbie with hatching... just learn the controls your incubator....

We offer a complete line of Hova Bators including the Genesis. Our prices are generally less than buying direct from the manufacturer. Take a look and let me know if we can help you. www.homeandbarnbasics.com
BYC members also get a 5% discount by using coupon code BYC5 at checkout.

Regardless of who you buy from, the Genesis is a great little incubator, I think you will be well pleased.

Thanks and Happy Hatching
Tony
