IDK, I like it much better than anything else and its the only food one of our poodles will gain weight on. The puppies this year have thrived on it, and the cat loves it. Maybe its a different formula where you are. Its highly recommended by the vets, and comes in the Medi-Cal prescription version too (used to be Techni-Cal). I did see a holistic brand in my tack shop recently calld Orijen that is grain-free and made from regional ingredients (and made in Canada).

http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/products/6fishcat.aspx

so I may talk to my vet about it on Monday when the cat goes in for his ultrasound..

I'm not saying its bad..just I believe in feeding like nature intended, whole raw prey when I can,I also think some of the higher priced foods with better known names are charging for the name, not ingrediants..IMO dogs dont need fillers or grains and I am not going to pay for them, but I do have the luxery of living in farm country and have avilable lots of animals to feed my dogs.

My dogs can't live on just raw food though. They do get supplemented but they are breeding dogs and need to have their condition kept up. While I agree that supplementing with raw food is good, feeding a whole raw food diet doesn't work for every animal unfortunately. Accio, my cat with all the urinary problems, was fed raw up until November when the urinary problems started. So we switched him to a dry food + high quality holistic soft food to keep the water content up.

I live in farm country as well, meat is *not* cheap, even your scraps... if you can find them... are expensive.

We fed Purina Pro Plan for quite some time until we had a bad episode. Opened a new bag one night, the following morning I found all five dogs had thrown up and had diarrhea all over the living room overnight. I called Purina, sent them in a sample, and of course there was nothing wrong with the batch according to them. Our dogs do not have sensitive stomachs, and something was significantly wrong for it to have that effect on all of them. I switched them to something else immediately, end of problem. I no longer have any faith in their quality control. Petsmart were also jackasses about the whole affair; Purina told me to return the opened bag and the other two bags we had as they were from the same batch. I wanted to exchange them for something else, and their manager acted like I was trying to rip them off! We had bought 140lbs of dog food a month from them for the previous three years, so the attitude was not appreciated

We took our business elsewhere.

We had also assumed that Pro Plan was the best we could feed for the money, until Merrick came out with Whole Earth Farms. It's $3 more per bag and the difference is night and day. You can tell by the smell and appearance alone of the kibble that it is a much higher quality food. The Merrick premium food has also come down in price significantly, and they get treated to that every month or so.

It blows my mind how much the price of Nutro in particular has risen. We used to feed Natural Choice Lamb and Rice and it was around $40 a bag. We had a bad episode with that also (opened a new bag that none of the dogs would even touch, and they're not picky!), It's now almost $50 for a bag that is 5lbs lighter, and nothing special. Nutro Ultra has also gone through the roof. I'm wondering how much longer they will be in business.

I am feeding the 4Health from TSC. Its made by the same people as Taste of the Wild just for TSC. We used to use Taste of the Wild, and when the girl told me this was the same stuff, I figured we'd give it a try.

The dogs seem to be doing very well on it. My American Bulldog hasnt had any allergy problems with it yet, and I like it because its cheaper!

I feed raw as a treat, but I dont have the time to make entire raw meals for both my 70 and 90 lb mooses. My boys love chicken necks and backs, gizzards, and hearts.

Do you only use chicken? No Beef, or rabbit, or anything else?

The Boston Terrier gets 1 chicken leg per day and the bigger one gets either 2 chicken legs or one leg quarter. They also get some eggs and occasionally ground beef or leftover steak as treats.

The Boston Terrier has been eating this way for 3 years and the other since we got him about 6 months ago. They have never looked healthier!

I buy chicken legs at Sams club for .89/lb or leg quarters for .50/lb.

Throwing them a piece of chicken everyday couldn't be easier! Hardest part is remembers to have some thawed out.

We are planning on starting to raise rabbits soon and will definitely be incorporating that into their diet as well.

Puppies, pregnant, lactating or working dogs should not be fed Blue Seal Adult Dog Formula. We recommend our Blue Seal Puppy, Active or Performance Dog Formulas.

Introducing a New Dog Food:
To avoid dietary upset when introducing your pet to a new food, switch to the new food over the course of a week by gradually decreasing the old food and increasing the new.

Provide plenty of fresh water.

The suggested feeding plan is intended solely as a guide. The variables of management, environment, and breed may dictate changes in the animal’s requirements.

I love this food!! It is also affordable for us, it costs 24.95/40 lb bag.
