What breed and gender is my chick?

It was sold to me as day old barredrock pullet at my local feed store. I knew the color were darker to be a barred rock, I ended up buying it anyways since I would be glad if ended with a cuckoo maran pullet. After several weeks I notice his comb is getting more red for his age. WhaView attachment 1214986 t do you think cockerel or pullet?

The barring is very dark and messy for a barred rock so I would say that this is a Cuckoo Maran Pullet.

White skin means you've got a Cuckoo Marans. The darker plumage means it's a female.

Just be aware that hatchery Cuckoo Marans don't usually lay the dark eggs that other Marans varieties are known for. Most Cuckoos lay average brown eggs.

From a breeder, but even then, Cuckoo Marans typically lay lighter eggs than other varieties of the breed. For really dark brown, you need Black Copper Marans from a good breeder.
