What breed are these?

X 2 - and the fact that they are engaging in crowing contests. You will find all sorts of tales of "crowing hens", but a) they are not as common as the internet might lead you to believe and b)those that do occur are not young birds just reaching puberty (as your birds are) but are rather older, mature hens who tend to have hormonal imbalances.

Agreed; I forgot to mention that as well. :o)

Thank you very much, I wasn't questioning how you knew I wanted to understand myself

. We will have to replace these lovely roosters with hens and start again as now I have your help for guidance. Will they continue to grow?

At 5 months old, they're basically as large as they're going to get. They may fill out and get a touch heavier, but pretty much what you see now is what you get. They do look to have some Leghorn or game blood, something pretty light bodied, so I don't think they'll get much heavier.

Sorry you wound up with roosters your first go round. Getting sex link chicks can help boost your odds of getting all females--just don't pick the odd looking chick out of a bin, that's usually the Oops rooster! or buying grown birds can help with sexing. If you're at all unsure of genders, feel free to post pics here before you purchase the birds and we can give you input.
