It's a little cockerel. My first thought is mixed breed. Where did he come from?

He was in a rare breed mix from gold feather farms. There's a pullet that looks the same breed.

They've got me stumped. I poured over Gold Feather Farms Website and can't find any breed they show that these chicks fit. Its possible you got crosses I suppose.

Mixes. The pullet almost looks like a Silver Campine mix to me, but that could be wrong.

They may just be random mix breeds. Some people as well as hatcheries put "rare" in front of a name just because people are more likely to buy them.

I"m also not seeing any matches. The pullet looks like maybe a silver penciled something...does she have a rose comb like the cockerel? I've not raised penciled birds so I' don't know the stages they go through, but his color is so muddy and mixed up, it really doesn't look like it's going to settle out to any pure color.

I'd send them a pic and ask them what he could be. They could have had a project going that's not advertised and had a mix up. From their website and the breeds they have, I think you're dealing with an honest accident rather than a backyard fence hopper kind of thing. They should be more than happy to help you sort this out. Were those my birds, I'd be all over trying to figure out where that chick came from.
