What Breed Do You Recommend?

For sure, Buff Orpingtons.

I've never had a Wyandotte but if you want egg laying machines, you can do no better than BSLs and CQs.

Wyandottes don't lay quite as well as the sex-links (BSL is black sex-link; CQ is cinnamon queen), but they do meet the original poster's other criteria, and they are quite decent layers -- certainly a lot better than Cochins. Mine have been laying reasonably well through the winter even with no supplemental light and only a three-sided shelter (and it got down to twelve below here this winter).

Buff Orpingtons or Rhode Island Reds! My friend has some RIRs and she said she just LOVES them to death! But, I have like 50 BO and they are just great birds to be around! They lay alot and they will go broody alot also! LOL And another plus for me is that they are friendly and make GREAT pets!
