What breed is he? (not sure I posted img correctly!)

My EE rooster has gone to his new home. I hope my neighbors realize he is gone since they wrote into the local rag complaining about his crowing. If I hear of one peep (pun intended) complaining about my hens and Ill get another rooster. Local ordinance allows hens and ROOSTERS. Uh, duh...this is a rural area.

Radiodog,

I would do a follow-up to that comment - - - but it would be off topic for "What breed or gender is it".

Glad you found a new home for your roo.

He was very pretty.

radiodog - - you didn't break any policies, but I probably would if I started talking about neighbors who complain about chickens while doing nothing about dogs barking ! ! !

Ohhh so don't get me going on neighbors.

jokes on me....I just rehomed the EE rooster, but what do I hear this morning? A crow.... There is not a chicken out in the chickyard that acts or looks like a rooster. Guess I'll be taking pics and asking for help identifying my other rooster!

Love this thread...I have giggled at quite a few posts.

One of my hen's egg song sound kind of like a crow...do you have laying hens?

By the way, the very basic difference in an EE and an Ameraucana is ... Ameraucanas are an accepted breed by the APA and bantam varieties by the ABA. Ameraucanas meet a standard; whereas, EEs are (usually) part Ameraucana [and therefore carry the blue egg gene] and "some other kind of chicken" ... a mutt. Check out ameraucana.org to see pictures of and read about the Standard that Ameraucanas meet...if you are interested.

Post more pics of your flock and we'll be glad to help ID if you have another rooster!

I know 2 'questionable' hens have the pointed feathers around their necks and the pointed feathers near where their tail feathers begin (sorry I can't think what the feathers are called..), but one has a hen tail and the other is a bantam w/o much of a tail. I've had both these chickens since April/May 09 (they were not chicks when I got them either). I don't recall a sound like a crow, but then again neither has produced an egg. And they don't have red combs or red around their faces...more pinkish. Neither acts like the rooster I had.

After reading everything on BYC...ta da....I do have another EE rooster! Are some just really late bloomers? I swear that since the other EE roo has been gone, his comb has started to grow and his comb & face redden! I've this bird about 3 mths short of a year!!! I just came back in from serving them a hot brunch and while out there I watched him.....he gobble up his share first, then started circling the hens talking to them...he would stop & check out the bowl, then start circling again making all kinds of clucking noices. I guess he was saying 'eat up girls....orgy tonight'. But then again I have never seen him ever come close to making a mounting move on the hens!
I guess that is subject to change. Or do I just have a sexually confused roo?
