What breed is my chicken

Hi! I have a 5 month old red chicken and I have no idea what breed she is. She is small and is a dark red. But she has a crest on her head. She has a few black feather on her tail. She lays small brown eggs. Any ideas on what breed my girl is? Don't mind the muddy hay it rained overnight

Rhodebar maybe? Unsure about the earlobe color though.

Edit: just realized the earlobes are right for a Rhodebar (red), it was the lighter feathers over the ear that threw me off.

I’m no expert, but it looks like a mixed breed..
Maybe some Welsummer??

Maybe a welsummer × crested legbar?

You could put a camera up in there or carefully watch the coop to see who lays.

Or put food coloring on her vent. It will dye the egg. Just don’t use red

I totally overlooked the crest! Probably crested legbar mix of some kind then, as @Ilovemychicks08 said

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
I've tried putting food coloring in hen's vents, and the results were inconsistent. Sometimes I would get marked eggs for several days, other times I would not get any marked eggs even when I knew every bird had laid an egg that day.


Why not red? Are you worried about other chickens pecking it? I didn't have any pecking issues when I tried it with red, although it might be different in some flocks or with some colors of chickens (red on the feathers would be more obvious on a white hen than on a red or black hen.)

Because if you forget you could panic and think it’s blood that’s the only reason lol red is fine if you know you put it on there.
