I'll second (or third?) Buff Orps. Mine are so sweet that I can't even tell the pecking order... the only sign that my "top hen" is Rose is that she'll run off my schnauzers when they get too close to the other hens, but I've never seen them peck each other.

My polish hens are sweet. Oddly, I had two polish roosters that were DEMONS.
Silkies are darling - every last one!
Hens? My turken & my two cochins are bossy & pushy. My dominiques are angels. Wyandottes, too.
