Very true.Chances are it is an Australorp because they are more common and in the picture she looks fairly small![]()
I just got this hen today and when I was clipping her wings she jumped out off my hands and got out through a hole in the ditch, I've searched all day for her and even ran the gun dog through the ditch to try find her but I haven't had any luck the ditch is right beside the main road but there's no feathers so she wasn't hit by a car I think she's just tucked away in there, I've left it for tonight but is she likely to come round to the rest of the hens tomorrow morning(if mister fox doesn't get there first) or will she just wonder off because it's a new place to her?
I was just clipping her wings before I locked her up but she wriggled out of my grip she was going around with the other hens for a bit and when I went to get her back in she made a break for it,still no sign of her but all I can do is hope she shows up shes not dead anyway because theres no feathers about so hopefully she'll come round
I hope she comes back! You could try using a food sound, if she knows what that is. My Leghorns kept getting out of the pen (I actually had to spy on them to figure out how, clever girls!), and one spent a night in the woods, scared me half to death! She came running up to the fence the next morning when I threw food on the ground.I was just clipping her wings before I locked her up but she wriggled out of my grip she was going around with the other hens for a bit and when I went to get her back in she made a break for it,still no sign of her but all I can do is hope she shows up shes not dead anyway because theres no feathers about so hopefully she'll come round
