Personal I love them both, but if I had to choose, I'd get the multi colored Mil de Fleur (Thousands of little flowers).

Mille de fleur. They are some pretty little birds. Our you could get a couple of each!@featherhead007 should I get a Mille Fleur or a Porcelain variety of the d'Uccles??
Welcome from another 4H family! If you want to turn chicken-raising/showing into a really neat 4H project, choose an endangered Heritage breed. You can find a lot of information on The Livestock Conservancy's website:I am a 4-H er in Ohio and I compete in the Canfield fair. I am ordering my birds early this year from Myers Hatchery. What breed should I get? Here is what I need in a show bird:
-Calm
-Smart
-Friendly
-Not huge
-Pretty
-Patient
-Not loud
-Can be a medium sized bird or a bantam
-Fine with being in a cage for about 3 hours at a time during the day and all night
If anyone has any suggestions let me know! (I used Black Australorps last year and it worked ok)
I'm thinking about setting up a breeding program at home, but I'd rather not bring a rare breed to show in case something happens. I am bringing d'UcclesWelcome from another 4H family! We raise and show Nankin Bantams, a critically endangered breed. They're small, friendly, sweet-tempered, flashy and very entertaining. They also tolerate confinement very well. We keep one of our breeding pairs in a big outdoor rabbit hutch - and they're a happy, healthy pair.
The best part about raising Nankins - or any truly rare breed - is the reaction they get at shows. Most people have never seen a Nankin in "real life," so we get lots of questions. As a result, we've place three breeding pairs with other families, so we're doing our part to conserve and rebuild the breed. It's very rewarding!
So - congratulations on entering the 4H Chicken World ... And the best of luck choosing the perfect biddie for your project.
ooh so I could get two of one and two of the other??Mille de fleur. They are some pretty little birds. Our you could get a couple of each!![]()
they are not popular in ohio and I was thinking maybe one of each?
Are they super popular to show where you live?
I am thinking maybe something more unusual like mottled houdans or sultans would be fun.
If sticking with the D'uccle maybe the porcelain would do well.
nope they are not popular and maybe I could have one of each

Silkies & Polish are pretty and catchy, but be prepared for LOTS of competition in the show ring. It seems like EVERYBODY shows Silkies in 4H! D'uccles are fun and pretty (especially the Porcelains, and pretty much any of the bantam mille-fleurs, too. Seramas are really tiny, and flashy, too.I was thinking about polish chickens! Seems like they would be a big hit!
I like silkies I lost all of them last year though to a rat

There are SO many neat choices ... it's like being turned loose in a candy store to "pick the "best one" ... you wanna try them ALL!
