What breed of chicken is this?

Possible it's an Olive Egger maybe. I've never seen one this color, but it has a small crest.

The store I bought it from said that it was an Ameraucana

This is a naming convention for a breed and it's close crosses that appears to confuse many, buyers and sellers alike.

Those are a type or RSL. Nothing about him really indicates that. I think he is probably an EE/OE it is EXTREMELY common for people to sell EEs as Ameraucanas.

Sadly he's dead now because the neighbor complained about the crowing
