What breed of duck should I get?

If you want just eggs... get Runners. If you want a good mom get a little silkie banty to sit on the eggs :) The best of both worlds OR get a muskovy and you won't be able to grab any eggs to eat... they will all be hatched !! Our Runners had lots of eggs. Not real good sitting ducks . The little Calling duck was the one who sat. Pekins can be good setters. Depends on the duck . Good luck. Any ducks are fun !

I like my khaki campbells. They havent started to lay yet as they are young but they are fairly quiet not real friendly but we are working on that. Not real big about 4 lbs, each when they get full grown. I cant wait for the eggs. They lady I bought them from said her others lay an egg almost everyday.

I wish I could get every duck that I see! But I don't think any one could.

You have stated that you may have to get rid of the dog. This makes me wonder, if you can keep ducks at all. They are noisy after all, and many suburbs/city limits do no allow life stock to be kept. You better check into your local rules before getting the animals.

No, the reason we might have to get rid of him is because he keeps peeing on everything.

Khaki Campbells make great moms! All of ours have brooded their own clutches and are very protective. We have two ladies co-parenting one of the clutches, sharing the responsibilities and taking care of all the babies, as they hatch:

And I have to admit, the babies are absolutely gorgeous:

That may be a hormonal problem. We had that in one dog and got hormone replacement pills from the vet. It fixed the issue. Some dogs just get it and nobody knows why. The lack of hormones can cause the prostate gland not to work right. Your dog can also have a urinary track infection, which can cause him to do the same thing. That is also easily treated with antibiotics. See a vet and have the dog checked out. The hormone pills we needed were very cheap. I just don't like to get rid of a pet because of some health issue.

Lots of reasons for dogs to pee on things. Is it marking behavior which he needs to be trained to stop doing? Has he been tot he vet to rule out a medical problem?
Will the ducks need new homes if they poop on the front door step?
