What breed of pigeon is this?

While the pigeons that fly around your towns and cities are kept by some people and share ancestors with all the other breeds of pigeons they are not what most people keep. There are A LOT of different breeds. They do lay eggs and I guess you could eat them, but I don't know anyone who has eaten a pigeon egg. The main reasons people raise pigeons are for show(all breeds), for fun(all breeds), to race them(homing pigeons), to watch them preform (rollers, tumblers,hi fliers, ext.), and for squab production or food(kings, giant homers,ext.). Here's a link to the national pigeon associations web site http://www.npausa.com/

Pigeons are for show. No, you can't eat the eggs. BUT, you can eat the birds. Even though I never would. But theres many beautiful breeds.

You should try squab it's good. I don't mean those cute lil yellow guys. Find some nice big king squabs to process and you'll be raising utility birds in no time.

Take them all and sell them. When I was a kid in high school I would catch wild pigeons out of barns at night and sell them to guys that used them to train hunting dogs.
