?? What breed or mix ?? Any ideas ?? Pics

She resembled the original poster's hen sort of. What do you think on comparing the two? Do they look very much alike to you?

The problem was when I bought Grace she was in a tank with two or three other reddish breeds. The high school kid who sold her to me had no idea which was which. I do recall there was a little patch of extra reddish on her back; the rest of her reddish yellow like many chicks are.

My Golden Comets are really dark red, but they're still Golden Comets

To me, they do look similar.

This will not work because the OP's bird is a Production Red.
Also the Down Color of a Rhode Island Red is Red with some having a light almost dirty white down color. (never Brown)

I breed Reds (Rhode Island Red) and I will let you know that looking at the under color will only work for telling Reds from Red Sex-Links and it will not work for telling Reds from Production Reds (The OP has a Production Red.)

The other thing that you have to look at is this, where did the person that you know get there Rhode Island Reds? If they got them from a hatchery then they are Production Reds and not Rhode Island Reds.

That is a Production Red not a Rhode Island Red. They are not even close.

I hope this isn't the breeder you talk about.

There is a difference between a Production Red and a Red Sex-Link.
Red Sex-Link has a Gold (s) Father and a Silver (S) Mother where as a hatchery Production Red is a cross of a R.I. Red and a Leghorn.

"Red Sexlinks can be a lot of crosses. Check out this thread on sex linked info to get an idea of the possibilities"
Thanks for the link. I see what you mean right away after looking at the information. I like Gracie and she's an excellent layer but I love pure breeds even more. I will probably be buying eggs or chicks from someone here at BYC from now on and not from a tank of chicks at a farm store.
