I personally don’t love feathered legs, though I have 4 that are feathered. Maybe that’s why I have an opinion? Anyway, the feathers get wet in the winter and I worry about the feet not drying out as well. They’re also more prone to mites. I’d love a couple Brahma’s but I’m not sure if I want more feathered legs to deal with.

I’ve got a Speckled Sussex, she’s not your typical friendly lap chicken that is common for many of the breed, but she’s a solid layer and goes broody twice a year. She’s hatched eggs twice for me and is an excellent mama.

I love the personality of my Dominique, friendly and curious, great forager. The rose comb is nice for my cold winters and she handles heat too. Obviously you need good ventilation, protection from wind, and deep shade in the summer for any breed of chicken.

My Marans is my flock queen, she’s chill and everyone seems to get along pretty well. She doesn’t have feathered feet, thankfully, and has a little harder time in the summer but has done ok. She’s all black, so that plus a big body makes it harder to deal with the heat, but again, deep shade is the key. Deep shade = ground that never has the sun shining directly on it. This could be under a deck, under some trees, etc.

We have light brahmas, marans, buff and lav oops. All are very impressive no major issues with any of them.

Feathered feet all fine RT even in snow and ice.

Pretty friendly but we handled them alot the first 15 weeks taking them out to their tractors and back.

I would get them all again no question and yep love the cuckoos!

Nice and friendly will lay eggs for a few years but not a production breed
good cold and heat hardy and broody is not a care either is fine
Sapphire Gems tick off all of those boxes ! I own five or so of them. They are really friendly and actually lay almost 300 eggs per year ! They are not considered a production breed. They are cold and heat hardy . They hardly ever go broody, but when they do, they will hatch eggs, or never come out of it.
