I want good layers, good brooders, good Moms, and low-budget freindly birds.
as if that isn't tricky enough, my Dad wants to keep our RIR roo.
I was thinkin BOs, but maybe not with the RIR.
the tempatures here are around 80.F
CAN YOU RECOMMEND A BREED?
thnks!

In addidion to BO and Australorps, I would suggest BR or Dominique (if you breed your RIR roo to the barred hen you get BSL, but BSL are hardly ever broody but decent moms) or SS (very friendly, broody, and good moms).

i was thinkin of producing BSLs but i read that the males are HORRID. i could just eat 'em, though! i think that i might go w/BOs and create some Ruff Rorphingtons. what happens when i cross an Australorp w/a RIRs roo?

I've got a BO x RIR chick- only 10 weeks old so don't know about laying, though hoping it will be good. But it's very friendly and cute :o) Got Australorps of same age, they are OK too, not as friendly as the other one but nice and meant to be good layers (that's why I got them anyway :o) )

Thank you! i think the speckled sussexs look good, and my pet store has some. how are they when crossed w/a RIR?

also, can i mix super old chickens (most likley diseased) with new pullets? 'cause the super old chickens are pets, and building a new coop for a few dying chickens is out of the budget. thanks for all of your responces!
