What Breed Was Your "Free" Murray McMurray Bird?

It's wise to keep in mind that the free chick is *usually* a rooster. If that's really an issue for you, you're better off declining the offer. Otherwise, it's fun to see what you get and you can usually either keep it, eat it, or sell it.

I got 3 free chicks and can not figure out what they are.

I got a SLW roo. I never saw the place (while ordering) that said I would get a free chick. That's nice and all- but I didn't want a roo!! Now I have to figure out what to do with him.
We thought he snuck in the box. :/
I should learn to read all the fine print I guess.

I didn't know you could get neat breeds... I just got a couple of Red Star roosters and one big mean red guy who would've made yummy soup but we gave him away. I wouldn't have minded a different breed, almost any other LF rooster. Now I'm desperately searching for a decent roo without going and buying one from a hatchery.

I usually decline the free chick, but have gotten them 3 times. First time was an EE male. We ended up eating him. Next time was a Blue Andalusian, and he was beautiful! I thought about keeping him, but he ended up fighting with my other roo, and bothering the hens, and so we culled him. Last time we got a Cuckoo Maran male, and we still have him.

We got a Cuckoo Marans roo as our freebie. Had him almost 5 months before a bobcat got him.

He was wonderful and I'm planning on actually ordering some Cuckoo Marans pullets and another roo this spring.
