Or it could have been a single-combed EE... no law written that says EE's have pea combs, though most do. I have a single-combed one from Privett.

The only time an EE gets a single comb is when the pea comb on the mother or father has a bad pea comb. It is hard to explain. I can't think of another better word than bad.

Not necessarily Maxx. DTchickens and jossanne are right, in that a bird that has a pea comb, could also be carrying the single comb. Nothing states that pea combed breeds need to have the "modified" combs in order to throw single combed offspring.
