What breeding projects are you working on or you want to work on.

I want to breed a similar bird, but I'm thinking of: blue wheaton ameraucana roo x barnevelder hen... in the hopes that my birds will look like tls_ranch's, but lay olive eggs.

That's actually one of the breeds i was thinking about adding to the mix. Currently I have a few f1 chicks, some buff orp and ee/br crosses. Im going to see how they turn out. Im using my heritage buff orp to give good body size so they can produce large eggs. Next year I am going to introduce some Leghorn into the line. I plan on each year crossing back to a sexlink for that good egg laying gene.

It will be about a ten yr/on going project.

I want to continue to improve my Rose Comb RIRs, and Partridge Wyandottes, and adding the Iowa Blue recovery project, very very few of them, and they need a lot of work. I would love to add the Swedish Hedemora as we need their cold hardiness in my area of Northern MI. But right now I just cant afford a breeding base of them. I am also interested in the Pumpkin Hulsey. One trait of the Iowa Blue I would like to see in all free ranging chickens is their protectiveness from hawks and predators . All of these breeds I want to stress hardiness, ranging abilities, broodiness and dual purpose traits. I would far prefer with all of these to shelve my incubator and have the hens raise the chicks.

I want to get a good breeding flock of Wishard Turkeys working and looking hard at the Jersey Buff, or Auburn varieties.

Thats probably enough for twenty years.

Tinkerbell ( that's her name ) hatched a clutch of babies out, and the boys were all Silvery and the Girls were all Brown. I figure my "Golden" EE boy was the father. The babies are all grown now and the boys have a gamey body, and Pea combs and the girls also have a gamey body and small muffs and Pea combs and they lay Blue/Green eggs.

I have some Silkie-X-Ameraucana who lay blue-green and mint green eggs. I've started working on a project to create a Silkie-standard chicken who lays blue and blue-green eggs. I can already see that it's going to be a whopper of a project, but that's okay. Several folks have already asked about Silkies with colored eggs. I think they'll be popular. I know that I love them already!

Right now I am working on a breed of chicken that you can tell if a baby is a boy or a girl just by the color of the baby when it is just a few days old and right now I have some babies that the males are white or a slivery color and the females are black. And iam working on perfecting my crele bantam Cochins in both smooth and frizzle. I am also working on blue crele old english game bantams.

I posted earlier about general plans, but this year is to establish flocks of Icelandics and Iowa Blues, the others are just going to go on in lower level of activity, keep the lines goiing is fine for this year,

I am also biting the bullet and going to chain link pens for all, raccoon, dog and hawk guarding, tops will have poultry netting, along with tarps on the ends.
