What breeds did you cross and what did the chicks look like??

turkens, but only the bantam ones. The standard size roos get huge ugly red necks. Not attractive.

The only thing uglier than a Turken is one of the naked chickens. A friend of mine is working on that project and keeps sending pictures of them to my camera phone to horrify me. *shudder*

Sorry my pics link to Zazzle. I don't have them anywhere else online at the moment. I am not trying to promote my store with this post just show off a few of my chickens.

Here is one of my mutts. He is a Bantam of some kind/Delaware cross. Photo is from Oct. 2008 just before my camera broke.

He will be the sire of some of my chicks this spring.

Here is my Phoenix. The sire of a cross with a Gold Laced Cochin Bantam

My camera broke before his chicks were born. He is a Red Phoenix which is the rarer of the colors of Phoenix.

Edit for spelling mistake

Oh, and my Araucana mix hen, Boots. The Araucana breeder also had Cochins and and oops happened. She lays green eggs even though she hatched from a blue egg due to her cochin sire.

This is a mutt I hatched out in my barn. All I know is the mother is my EE mixed with Cucko Maran and Spithabuan(spelling?) that is a solid blue. The rooster could be any of my roosters.

And this is a younger chick out of the same hen.

They don't look anything alike at all. It could be they have different fathers or the heritage of the mother mixed differently with the same rooster.

What is she? I got her as a chick from the school that the Kindergarten class hatched. I think she's a bit EE. Who knows?
All I know is that she is a great layer! She's my girl.
BTW: hi farmgirlie.

BYC member DangerousChicken had some beautiful turken hens. I really don't like turkens, but fell in love with hers.

Since we are into exhibition poultry we really don't croos much. However, during the winter months we may have a little hanky-panky between the different breeds and an egg or two may find their way into the incubator. I have intentionally crossed RIR bantams with a red naked neck to darken the color of the red on the naked neck. Right now I have one young naked neck that came from a red naked neck hen and a quail d'Anver male. It is a red naked neck with a beard. I have a two day old black rose comb naked neck that had necked neck hen and black wyandotte roo.
