What breeds have black skin?

Actually, the dark meat from those birds is just pigment. It is not actually "dark meat"

All very interesting. This chick is black all over, not just the face, and easy to see too since her fuzz is all yellow. That is a strange color for our chicks too. We never get solid colored chicks at all so a yellow one odd?

She certainly looks like an EE otherwise? I know EE's are a 'hybrid' and there is a good possibility that this egg was laid by an EE/silkie mix hen, so the back skin gene could be coming from both sides?

Since you have silkie mixed into at least several of your flock, I would say the chances are pretty good that the chick inherited Fm from both parents. If some of the silkies that originally were bred into your flock were white, you probably have recessive white showing up, too. Want to try for a third gene match-up for silkie feathering?

To the best of my knowledge, Silkies are the only chickens with black skin.  But as I'm sure you know, they also have 5 toes and are feather-legged.  I'm not sure what the order of dominance is with these traits.

There are several breeds with fully black skin. Ayam Cemani, Swedish Black Chicken, several miniature game bantams and one from far north western china (can't recall the name) that also lays green eggs.

Wow! I've got to resurrect this thread!
OP what did your chicky grow up to look like????
Because it sounds JUST like my story:

Ok, my first ever hatchling and I had to share! I'm just so fascinated with him/her especially because it has all BLACK skin with yellow fur, like a baby Silkie! But we don't have any other chicks like him/her in the flock! This baby came from our Roo (who is some sort of mixed breed) and the egg it hatched from was green, so that rules out my RIR, barred rock, leghorn etc as the mom! So, I'm extremely curious to see what this little chicky will look like in a few months!! Genetics are so crazy!
