What bug is this? Help!

Hi! I’m a total newbie when it comes to bugs/worms etc in chickens. My buff Orpington always has a poopy butt. We bathed her indoors a few months ago but it got bad again last week. Today I went to trim some of it out and her vent area was all red, swollen and bare. I saw a few little red/brown bugs. Is this chicken lice? Seems to match an internet search the best (I also searched for vent gleet and fly strike, but I don’t think it looks like that). My lavender Orpington seems to have a few too. What’s the best course of action?

That there is chicken lice. Permethrin is your best course of action.

I agree, lice.
Permethrin based poultry dust or spray.
Treat your whole flock, clean out coop and treat it as well. Repeat in 7 day intervals.

I used seven dust on the chickens and coop and it seems to have cleared!
