what can I expect from Murray Mcmurray?

only ordered from them once and it was 100 bobwhite (min for quail) came in thursday morning and all died by sunday afternoon. all were alive on arival, a few looked rough, but looking back this was probably a result of my experince and lack of space at the time. will probably order again but not quail.

What on earth happened? I can hardly imagine someone losing 100 birds in less than four days! Did you give them a satisfactory heat source? Or, did you just put them outside in a pen and they froze to death?

Rittert, Don't feel bad, I had the same thing happen. Wound up with 12 extremely hardy individuals out of original 100. There are tricks to raising them. Felt like an auschwitz guard for about a week. Mc Murray did give your money back though, right.

I devided them into 2 3x2 boxes in the basement with heat bulbs over ea box drown proof water and feeder in each box. when they arrived I dipped the beaks to introduc.e them to water and let them be for a couple hours I couldn't get my brooder temp to their taste evidently because they were always piling up wether it be in the middle or corners tryed to adjust accordingly at resonable intervals but the crowding continued by the time i got down to the last few crowding wasn't a problem but they were already so weak there was no saving them

No money back could not contact anybody at hatchery within alotted time tryed 2 or 3 times with no answer the biggest waste of $150 ever. Had similar experience with pheasant but neighbors cats were to blame and they were older.

JoJO, Could you post a pic of your buttercups? Been dying to get some. thanks!

Hi Luvarabhorses...yes, but you realized - I'll have to learn/ask how to post. They really are cute. They look "wild" but are pretty calm little creatures. They are a little smaller than I expected them to be at this age...but cute! I'll work on the picture thing over the next couple of days.

JoJo,
For me the easiest thing is to send the pic to my desktop. Click on uploads, go to browse, find desktop, find picture, click the resize email box, hit submit. Let it download. Run mouse over bottom image box and click copy. Carry it over to your message and click paste. The image will appear in the post from the hyperlink you see.
Hope that helps L.

I've ordered from MM for years and have never had a bad experience with them. You can't expect show quality birds from MM most of the time but if you're just looking for a pretty flock or good egg layers or good meat birds they can be trusted to handle the job in my opinion.

We ordered 25 from them for the first time in February and everything was great.

They arrived all alive - we lost two since we were newbies and probably didn't make sure they were drinking properly. We had one more that was sickly but we brought it in the house and within 2 weeks was OK to go back to brooder. We ordered 15 Jumbo Cornish Rocks (for the freezer and to balance out 25 minimum order) and the balance was 2 each of 5 different breeds of hens. Our one free bird has turned out to be a Lakenvaler rooster. He is a rare bird and very pretty. I was not interested in having a rooster - but after trying to adopt him out through the local 4-H with no luck we have decided to keep him. He is good with the girls and not that loud since he is a small bird only 3-4#. Long story told we were very happy with service, refund for lost birds and plan to order at least 25 more Jumbo Cornish next year. By the way we had them vaccinated and used vitamins in water. I would suggest reading all the tips in the catalog very helpful for newbies.
