what can I expect from Murray Mcmurray?

I just got my Cornish X from Mcmurray this morning. I ordered 25, they sent 27.... 5 were DOA so I have 22, all of which look good so far.

The thing I was not happy about was that they shipped my chicks out on a Saturday.... so they probably sat around somewhere all day Sunday. The ones that were DOA looked to me like they had been dead for some time... completely flattened and quite decomposed (and VERY stinky). Makes me think they expired immediately after they were shipped! yuck.

I also ordered from McMurray for the first time. I ordered 10 Jersey Giant females, 2 males. 6 Australorp females. 5 Silver Spangled Hamburg females, 2 males. I also wanted the free rare chick and was looking forward to getting a breed I didn't have. They were to be shipped the week of June 15th. On June 13th, Saturday morning the phone rang and it was the post office saying my chicks were there! They had shipped them Friday and fortunately they came the next day. I wasn't very happy they came early and they don't notify you that they've been shipped. They sent an extra giant rooster and my free rare chick was another SS Hamburg. The chicks are all fine and healthy but shipping them early and on a Friday made me a little mad. And if I had wanted another Giant rooster and another SS Hamburg I would have ordered them. I probably won't order from a hatchery again.

I ordered 50, I think they sent 54, but about 15 were dead on arrival, lost more in 24 hours, called MM and they credited me for them. Partly my fault for ordering too early in the year. They were shipped during a cold snap and the PO wasn't exactly cooperative.

But I will not order from them again because they do all their shipping on Saturday. Sorry, I do not believe mail moves as quickly or efficiently over a weekend. If I decide to mail order again it will be a Monday ship date or nothing.

Now I just buy from the feed store. They're already eating and over their shipping stress that way.

If you buy from McMurray - expect to buy somewhere else next.

Nope won't order from them again, not happy with their stock.

Now IDEAL rocks. LOL it even Rocks in Rocks - which are my breed. Heartier, healthier birds that have never come and been unwell, never lost a single bird. Really very happy dealing with Ideal.

Really unhappy with McMurray. Never again.

This year was my first order from MM. I've had to cull my entire flock twice in the last two years for sick birds from private breeders and have had my ideal birds arrive dead (too far in winter?) I was very leary this year, I've lost a lot of money on chickens!

MM is GREAT!! My BSLs are beautiful, big and robust and my bantam buff brahmas are GORGEOUS and HEALTHY!! I had a mix up on a couple chicks being shorted, so they refunded me right away and I did cull the free exotic as it "wasn't right" but for me this was definately worth the money.

I have ordered from MM several times. I always have had very good luck with their stock. Concerning peoples bad experience with dead birds.....After the birds are shipped they are solely in the care of the post office. I would venture to say that most bad luck is the responsibility of the PO.

This is not meant to be derogatory to any other hatchery, but MM is my hatchery. I would also say that any hatchery that has been in business for a few years, are all very professional.

I would say that in my chicken career I have purchased over 500 birds from MM.

me and my neighbor ordered 25 bantam chicks from them and split them between the two of us we got them 4 days ago and since then 4 of mine have died and 6 of hers, they ship on a saturday and then the chicks have to sit somewhere and wait all day sunday plus the extra 2 days of shipping also they have no standard size pullets available right now theyre all sold out
