What can we do about unanswered posts?

Okay, I'm a newbie that was very frustrated not getting an answer to a few of my questions so I'll give you my perspective.
#1 I joined a community and I wanted to jump right in and make friends with other chicken owners so yes, please engage me and don't let me feel like the new geeky kids over in the corner. (I'm 44 btw, not a teen.)
#2 The question I had was about bedding for my coop floor (I won't go in to all the details). Oh boy, I read and read and read some more and I was SO confused! There are posts about bedding that goes back to 2009 and things do change and get better so I was looking for possible new insight. Plus, I just wanted someone, ANYONE to look at my coop and tell me everything is okay!
#3 I agree people ask silly simple questions that can easily be found on here but when you're new the site can be a bit overwhelming and you just want a live person. Know what I mean?
When newbies first post these questions a gentle nudge with a link to direct them would be great!
I love how you guys take the time to welcome everyone, it's really nice! But after the welcome pay a little attention to them before they are left on their own.
I have to say my state thread for Washington has been a great community and helped me feel very welcome and a part of the community.

When I first joined I didn't even know how to "search" and it took me a while to even figure out how to post a question. That may seem ridiculous to some people but it was the first forum I had ever joined and at first I couldn't even find my way back to it, lol.
Now I try to answer at least one unanswered post a day, even if I have to do the searching for them. I hope others do as well.

Yeah, I personally feel an obligation to share my experience and what i have learned from the site with others - kinda "you help me, I'll help someone else". We all have to put back in what we get out out of BYC, otherwise we are not a community.

I guess I'll reply to my own thread! I remember when I was new to this, only a few months ago. I had some questions about the gender of my pullets. It was a while before people responded, and since these are the first chickens I ever had,I really couldn't tell. I thout my Rhode island red was a rooster. Now I get 5 eggs a week from her. My point is, newbies tend to need some help with things. Might I suggest answering at least one unanswered thread a day?
 
Is there a way to put unanswered posts on top.. I've just search 4 pages. Found none .. all had replys... am I searching in wrong spot.. I've tried to go to page 16 then s roll back
 
To get to unanswered posts, got to forums, then on the top right you should find a thing saying New Posts. Click the down arrow and hit Unanswered Posts.

For some of us it can feel as though we are being a little repetitive and it's good to let others have there say. However I do agree with you, there is so much information online and sometimes it is nice to have someone help you pinpoint the information you need. There are many knowledgable and helpful people on this site but occasionally posts get buried in the conversation. Depending on the urgency , it is quite common for people to PM another member for advice. :)
