What causes this?

These eggs are from my oldest hen. She was an egg eater but I built roll away boxes and she's been laying eggs with spots on them for a couple of months. The rest of my hens eggs are perfect. I got her around Easter in 09. Are these eggs still ok to eat or hatch

I just see some freckles on the eggshell, some come that way, I believe they are okay to eat.

Those are fine to eat. What kind of hen is she?

Ok. Yea they are just red dots. Some of the bigger one you can feel on the egg. Some are small and some are a little bigger than a pencil lead. I know u googled spot on egg and it said something about blood spots and I didn't know about that.

She is a rhode island red

Some of my brown egg layers lay an egg with the occasional spots like that. I found that those spots wash right off. I've eaten eggs like that with no problem.
