Hello. I recently got a pheonix rooster and he has some strange coloring. He looks like a silver but he also has some spangle patterns on his chest and some golden coloring on his wings. Both of his parents were silver.

He's a golden. And by golden I mean he has both silver and gold alleles, which makes him to have a light colored hackle and saddle, with golden, red, and irridescent wings.

A true gold duckwing would be very red and black; a silver duckwing would have no red or gold on it whatsoever.

He does have poor coloring though - One should not have any color than black on the chest.

So, I'm assuming he wouldn't make a good show bird? Or will he grow out of it(he's only 4 months old) and become on type of coloring?

Thank you.
He is very pretty.

I agree with what Illia said and I will add-
He's not a pure Pheonix.
And in a show if he isn't DQ'ed he will be placed very low.

The reason I say this is that he has Red earlobes

Pheonix should have White earlobes.

I got him from somebody's daughter who shows phoenixs. We were told his mom was a champion and both the dad and the mom came from breeders.

I'm also wondering if we were lied to. The daughter had two birds she was getting rid of because they weren't up to standard. Apparently when the lady told the daughter I was planning on showing it she got one of the birds she was planning on showing. After what I'm hearing I'm thinking we actually did get one of the bad ones.

That's what I thought. I think the lady who gave him to us lied to us. Oh well. I guess I'm going to have to go back to my original plan of buying one from a real breeder.

So, I was looking at him recently and I noticed that his earlobes are actually turning white. His coloring seems a little different but he still has the "spangling" on his chest and the golden coloring on his wings. Here are some updated photos however. I'm just curious if anyone thinks maybe he will eventually get white earlobes and maybe even if the terrible coloring might get better. I also think he may be a bantam as he is incredibly tiny.

Ignore the fact his tail is in such terrible shape. As soon as it started to drag the ground it got ratty and now it doesn't even drag anymore.
