Can some one give me a clue as to what color this bird might be classified as so I can try to find a breeding partner for her. She looks to me to have some green in her. I have only been raising bs and blues and am unfamiliar with other colors of peafowl. The guy I got her from had no clue what she was even bred from. He was selling her for someone else at a sale. I just thought she was beautiful and the price was right. Do you think she has green in her? What color males do you think would be good to breed her with for great colored chicks.

Ya guessed right.. she has green in her. They're called spaldings in the peafowl world. Spaldings come in a wide range of appearance.. from mostly India to very Green looking. It's mostly personal preference which part of the spectrum is "best".. many consider the higher the green blood, the better.. but that is still completely a personal preference.

If you like birds that look more green, then you want a male with as high green blood as you can find. One drawback, if you live in very cold winter area, you don't want too high green percentage as they don't handle cold as well as Indias.

She appears "normal color".. is not showing any hint of other genes so it would be impossible to tell if she happens to be split for other colors or patterns.

Thanks for the reply. I think I lucked up with this bird. I thought she was a spaulding but I had never messed with them before so I thought I would ask. I am going to try to find another spaulding to breed her with now. Hope I can find one as easy as I did her. I love the dark brown on here under side, is this normal of all spaulding hens or is it a clue as to what color she may be crossed with. She is much darker on the underside than any of my other hens.

Spalding are very common these days. Should be easy to find one. Spalding unless in rare colors, run about the same as india blues. Now ones high % green sell for more.
