I just came home with some bantam Cochin chicks and a silkie, I dont know if the cochins are black or mottled, do any of you fellow chicken keepers know? Also I was wondering if my silkie chick was a boy or girl, and tips and how to tell.

Black Cochins, White Silkie.
Silkies are notoriously difficult to sex, especially as chicks. You will have much better luck trying to sex your Silkie when it is mature (5-6 months).

Oh, I thought that the silkie was buff. How can u tell buff and white apart?

Black cochins, they just start out with some white as chicks! White sillies can be a tad "tan" as chicks, but if it's all-over Orpington-type buff in person, it probably is a buff! The feet feathers can sometimes be easier to help distinguish color, in my experience

I am not extremely experienced in Silkies. I likely got the color wrong, it looked more yellow to me when I replied. I think the others who say buff are correct.

The Cochins do have white on their feet too. Does that mean anything?
