What could be wrong with my 10 month old Delaware? **Update**

Thank you for the article. Am going to check with my vet tomorrow as well. This is not a good week for this to happen. Just had to put my 17 year old dog down and now this. I told Bridget that she was the ornery gal and that she needs to make it.

I finally found out what was wrong with my Bridget. She actually had an impacted crop. After reading many threads on the subject, I ended up giving her olive oil and massaging her crop. She still had a good appetite throughout this whole thing. (I did ration her food.) After several days of this she finally started to poop out lots of grass. As of today her crop is back to "normal" She just needs to get her weight back on.

Thank you Mama for your good advice. I appreciate the help. It is hard to know what could be wrong with the girls when they fall ill. I am just happy that she is alive and well.

When Bridget was healthier and cleaner. She is a bit underweight and dirty from the mist system and rolling in the dirt at the moment.

mama hen chris, I have a 9-wk-old pullet with enlarged, soft crop. I've isolated her in a dog crate indoors since this morning. I've also removed food and offering her water with ACV and massaging her crop. Just wondering how you got your hen to "drink" the olive oil? Thanks for any advice!

I wrapped her in a towel and held her like a baby. I used a syringe (no needle) filled with olive oil. I opened her beak with my left hand and put the syringe past her tongue towards her throat and squeezed. She was pretty good about the whole procedure. I would massage her crop after that and she loved that big time. I also added Poly Vi Sol in her drinking water. The only thing she really liked to eat was tuna. I gave her a fork full but would not let her eat too much. I did this for almost a week.

She got stir crazy in the house and I would let her outside when I let her "sisters" out in the grass for an hour. Then it was back in the house so I could observe the excrement. I didn't think it would ever come out but it did over time. She is a happy girl again.

I tried your suggestion with the towel and wrapping her up and it didn't work too well! Ha! If I put a little on my finger and wipe it on the tip of her beak, she kind of "licks" it up. She seems really hungry this morning but I've seen posts that say not to give food for 3 days or so. I did offer her some plain yogurt which she had no interest in. Could I put a little oatmeal in it? Thanks
