I have not posted in a while but this really upset me I have never seen such a brutal attack and cannot figure what would do it. My little girl was torn completely in half and looks like she was eaten from the inside out any ideas out there. I have lost chickens in the past but usually not in this brutal fashion

Could have been anything coon, fox, coyote, rat, etc.

Sounds to me like you need to set a trap and hope you get whatever did this. You may want to check you coop or run to see how the predator got in. Or were the chickens free range??

Have you secured your remaining flock?? If this was an animal attack it will probably return to eat again.

Oh Fran, I am so sorry. WHat a terrible way to find one of your babies. Sounds like a coon...but really...could be about anything...dog,fox..rats...again, im so sorry.

My DH says it is a weasel. That is exactly what they do to a animal. A coon, fox or coyote usually take their kill away, but a weasel leaves it's kill behind. The sad part about weasels are they just like to kill. My DH asked was the neck torn open? Weasel do that also. So sorry about your girl.

Thank you all. I am just upset I am in the Texas Hill Country Marble Falls. My pen is chain link with chicken wire around the bottem two feet up. And bird neeting over the top there was only one hole and I fexed it tonight we will see the hen house is also secure. The chickies free range during the day and get locked up at night I am going to leave my GS out there tonight.

So do you think the predator went through the hole in the fence or went over the top through the net? Or do you think the predator got her when they were out free ranging?

Like I said there was one hole in the top of the netting that I fixed. Some of my chickens would not go in the pen last night I guess they were scaed to death. My GS would protect all my livestock and dose when needed she has killed preditors on my property before.
