What did you do in the garden today?

So up at 4:30a. All set to go and weed around the front of the house. It’s 32* and 10 mph winds.
Dang! :barnie
Put on my beanie and winter work coat. Good morning and happy gardening.

It's awful. I bought 2 bags of pellets for my pellet stove last week and I dumped the last bag into the hopper yesterday. I'm rationing that. My heating oil is mostly for hot water and I would rather save it for that rather than heat. If it would just warm up another 5 - 10 degrees from 45F to 55F I would be fine with that. With all the rain, 45F is just raw. If I can't do any outside work today I may have to just hang out and bake some cookies.

We are supposed to be sunny here today. Everything is soggy.

I had to put all my shavings that were supposed to be for chickens into the dog run. It is so muddy in there. :sick

If course there are errands so any weed pulling or garden anything will have to wait.

One day of SUNSHINE! I'll take it. I'm waiting for the fog to burn off. It's 38' and I'd like about 45 before I go out and start putting down mulch and put up supports.

The plants in the cells are stunted and yellowing a tad, so I'll hit them with some Nitrogen (blood meal) today.

No fox visits last night. I am hoping I'll be noisy enough today with the post pounder that she'll stay away while I let the birds out. I can't make them stay in with a day of sun. I can't. Rolling the dice.

BTW I tore my brachial something or other between my wrist and elbow. SON of A goat it hurts. I'm supposed to rest it. Uh huh. Just how am I supposed to do that? Sorry, boys no hay bale today, I'm supposed to rest. No water buckets, I'm supposed to rest. Sorry honey, no dinner...well that one I COULD get away with! (LOL) Too much to do. I can't waste a day of sun, when the next 5 have rain. Things need done, period, no choice. Slap a tension brace on it and suck it up. It's the ranch way. LOL.

See you on the flip side everyone.

Wow, all the people who have cold weather...I feel lucky. We have had temps in the high 80's all week. Today is 82, but a thunderstorm is rolling in this afternoon, with possible hail.

I got out this morning and sprayed Round Up Brush killer on all the poison ivy that is taking over in the grove of trees next to the house. The chicken coop is there, and the dog does her business in there. I don't want her to bring the urushiol back in the house! Of course, I didn't know it was going to rain when I sprayed. :barnie Now I will have to do it again.

We have tried so many ways to get rid of the poison ivy but it is persistent! It has runners everywhere, and I cannot find the source plant. Last month, I got rubber gloves on and pulled up everything I could find and bagged it. Tons more came up! So I am going the chemical route, as much as I hate to do so. My kids play in that area.

I've been hiding inside pretty much all day. I looked at my garden on the way to the mailbox. Today those scraggly tomato plants look a little perkier. If it would just warm up a little, please! I baked cookies, then moved some of my seedlings into bigger pots. The squash seeds I planted for a friend are starting to break through the dirt. He's been so busy planting his new apple orchard and hasn't even touched his vegetable garden. So at least I can give him a hand with some plants. I have herbs, cucumbers, poblano peppers and jalapenos that need to go outside, but the rain doesn't stop for more than a few minutes, then it starts up again. And these peppers don't like cold. The grass needs to be cut soon too, but there's no way I'm driving my garden tractor through the mud. Somebody please turn off the faucet!!!! :he
