What did you do in the garden today?

I would have been there with a vacuum cleaner, bag type, and then burn the bag. I would never kill a spider,(outdoors in nature) except BW, and Brown Recluse.
Too much to risk trying to save those.:old

Yeah, I leave the other spiders alone. They keep the other bugs away.
We have a lot of BW here. They seem to like my garden for some reason. I always wear gloves and look carefully before reaching into any plants.

wow! Never heard of BW invading tomatoes! Still awful - I'd dust too. I remember one of those hoarder shows, where the teen kid that did a little cooking in the family only had one burner to use...rest of the tiny (and packed) kitchen was unusable. When they cleaned out the home, there was a whole nest/ colony of BW on the COUNTER!! under all the icky stuff that hadn't been moved for who knows how long. The exterminators were there for the roaches and jumped back when they discovered the BWs!! So, I guess outside BW are better than inside BW. still ick!

I never had any issues with them until we moved here. They seem to like trees, stumps, and plants. I had a huge black widow in my tomatoes last year, that had a web with hundreds of babies. It was down at the base of the plant and I saw the web first, and the babies, but didn't know it was black widows. The babies werr tiny and kind of brownish. I left it alone. Then two days later, I saw a bunch of tiny exoskeletons, where the babies had shed, and they were gone, spread out to other plants. I was weeding around the plant and found the huge mama BW in a little hole by the base of the plant. I only saw her because she was upside down and I saw the red on her underside. Ick! I sprayed all the tomato plants and dug up all the ones closest to the one that had the nest.

 Guess you are dealing with all those babies - now all grown up.

Good morning gardeners. Reading the posts about hoarders and spiders, I feel the need to clean and scrub my kitchen counters. Icky! My car is fine just a wacky sensor. That did take all of yesterday morning. I headed to the farm store to pickup scratch and found a bale of chopped straw and hay for the garden. The temperatures are jumping up near 90 for the next 3 days so I'm trying to keep the cool crops from bolting. Got that put down yesterday afternoon. Today is supposed to be cooler around 70F and rain later. I picked some lettuce, turnip greens and a few peas this morning. Put the last bag of mulch down in the front garden and dead headed the roses. I will be installing the window AC's today and if there is any time and I'm not too worn out, I'll try to get some painting done. I was happy to find some Russian tarragon seed the other day. I'll try growing this indoor this season, then put the plant out next Spring. Have a great day everyone!

Making a banana bread with sour cream today or maybe with pudding in it ? have a chilie mac hamburger helper replacing the pasta in with bow tie Okay just using the spice packet from it will add a bit of chilie also... Garden is handing many salads near future

I topped some of my cherry tomato plants. They had actually kind of topped themselves ( the branches were breaking off because they were too tall above the tomato cages) so I figured I better take care of the others!
I got a cherry tomato yesterday and another one today! They were yummy!! I can't wait until I can harvest more than 1 a day. :lau
My Roma tomato plants aren't looking good today. It seems like the leaves and branches are die-ing or falling off. I hope they bounce back, I am wanting to can pasta sauce this year!
My cucumber plants are starting to take off nicely!! Last year I only got 2 cucumbers. The year before I had enough that I was able to can my own pickle relish!! It was delicious! (But a LOT of WORK!)
Not sure if my zucchini plants are going to do anything or not. They have flowered and then the flowers have disappeared ( fallen off I think) at least twice. The plants themselves have only grown a little bit. I don't know if that means I have male plants or if there is another problem. I like zucchini but I hate having to buy it when I know it can be so prolific in gardens. Hopefully, they will start doing better.
My soggy chicken yard has almost dried out enough that you don't sink or squish when you walk in certain parts of it.

Oh yea, I pulled up almost all of the spinach. Need to plant some more!

I normally don't kill spiders, unless they look big enough to maybe eat me, then I feed them to the chickens.
