What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning and Happy Valentine's Day! The high today is 26F that happened 2 hours ago. It's 22F now and will fall to around 0F or minus something. Just one cold day then warming up a bit. We got 3 inches of slush yesterday. It actually helped to melt some of the ice in the back yard. But yesterday was a good day. While I was shoveling the slush in the driveway the mail carrier drove up and delivered my little Bay Laurel "bush." I really need to buy some dirt now. I was worried it would be delivered when I wasn't around and then have to sit in the cold. But it's fine and perky looking. That was the extent of my gardening for the day. I checked my Gurneys order and my Lingonberry plants won't get here until April or May. Last year I believe I planted Danvers Half Long carrots. The seeds I have now are a Nantes hybrid that only get to 6 or 7 inches long. Hopefully they will do well, if not I'll go back to the other since they actually produced carrots. Here's a shot of my newest addition to the herb garden. It's nearly 4 inches tall. Have a great day everyone.

I should have come to your house for breakfast. Sure beats oatmeal and prunes. LOL! Looks very tasty.

Has anyone ever pruned there squash, zucchini plants so they dont take over the row next to it?
The vines are hollow, so I don't think it would work well.
Also, my zucchini and yellow squash doesn't tend to spread too far. Just big leaves. Perhaps I've been getting a compact variety the last few years without knowing it. Other squash plants (butternut, buttercup, patty pan, spaghetti) have spread a lot though in the past. That's the reason I moved vining squash and pumpkin out of my fenced in garden this year. I am going to try to grow them on the side of the house I think by planting them at the edge of a mulch bed with shrubs in it and letting them go onto the lawn. That part of the lawn is covered anyway with some creeping plant that took over as a weed. If I'm lucky, the pumpkins with smother and shade the weed and help kill some of it.

I may stand corrected on trimming vines. Per my previous reply, I didn't think it was a great idea, but this guy on YouTube is trimming pumpkin vines and claims doing so leads to better growth of the pumpkins.

Good morning gardeners! Happy Valentines day!!!
Awesome looking waffles @Acre4Me !! Bravo!
Was "French toast Friday" for my DH topped with a nice glass of fresh squeezed OJ. Nice!

I'm still harvesting oranges, avocados and papaya. Still plenty more still on the trees. My new juicer came in the mail yesterday so I am sure we will be plucking the orange tree much faster now.
