What did you do in the garden today?

Those Big Dogzzzzz probably eat like a horse... :gig:lau
If I had to flip their Purina Chow bill, I would definitely end up in the poorhouse.
:lau You crack me up!!!!
Yes and no. We are lucky to be able to cut grass for them much of the year. I think that my chickens feed bill is higher... 😖
We live pretty simple in a 540sq house we financed and built ourselves. We don't go out much, my clothing consists of hand me downs, our cars are bought used and we mostly do our own mechanics etc. We don't drink, smoke or gamble... so they get to be our bad habit... well, that and cussing!.

I buy the cheapest, smelliest dryer sheets I can find, cut them into 4 strips per sheet and hang 3 or 4 in a tree with clothespins. The stink is strong to us, nauseating to a deer. Lasts MONTHS.
my neighbors all have electric fences and high cattle panel rings around their trees. ALL their trees. They still get deer. Not me. LOL. I replace in the Spring and in the Fall.

Tomatillos are a plant I would le to have but I had a bad past experience. When we lived in the city at our previous house or neighbor had tomatillos and their garden located right along or shared fence was infested with rats who happily feed on the tomatillos. They would of course venture into our yard then as well and try to get into our garden. I regularly trapped rats right at the property line. Eventually the city came out and forced them to take action, but for two years it was a rat buffet.

Now the tomatillos are likely no more tempting than tomatoes or berries and I am certain it was the owners lack odd garden maintenance that led to the escalated problems, but I have not been able to get over the association of rats with tomatillos.

yeah, I can understand the aversion. Rats in the yard/garden to that extent is a memorable experience in all the wrong ways.

we always make a pumpkin stew that is a bit spicy, and has pumpkin, tomatillos, hominy and Red peppers in it. Sometimes bake it in a pie pumpkin, sometime chunk up the pie pumpkin into cubes andcook it all in a large pot. Yummy in the winter!
