Sunflowers, Zinnias, Marrigolds.
Have a great day everyone.

It's gorgeous here today!! I had to go out and run some errands. Picked up 4 more bags of chicken feed, a couple bales of shavings. Was hoping to get at least 1 chick to go with the one that hatched here in case none of my other eggs do, but nope, they were all sold out again. They said they had some on Friday but sold out very quickly.
Then off to the veggie stand. Bought some asparagus because mine hasn't started coming up yet, some corn and a couple of tomatoes and Oh, look, they have vegetable starts! So I got 3 kinds of tomatoes and some green pepper plants too. :wee
Next stop, Walmart to pick up a couple of things that my Mom called to request yesterday. Hubby had me get him some India Ink and I got a new laptop ( I couldn't get on mine again for the last 2 days because it keeps locking up). Got a gift card and a gallon of milk for my granddaughter ( who is being raised by her other grandparents who are currently both out of work 😞).
Next stop, Walgreens to pick up prescriptions. There was a guy with a sign outside that said "Hungry" plus some other stuff that I didn't bother to read. I bought him a loaf of bread, a package of thin sliced ham, a package of sliced cheese and a bottle of water. Went out and gave it to him and then went back in to get my things. Wasn't sure if he would return the items after I left or what. I don't usually do this kind of thing. When I went back outside to leave he had already made himself a sandwich and was getting ready to eat while crying because someone cared enough to help him. It made me tear up a bit too. Hopefully this helped him out some. I have no idea what his back story is but I often think the worst of people that I see panhandling. I figure they are trying to get drug money or something. But this guy was really grateful (no matter what else may or may not have been going on).

Now I'm back home ( dropped off the milk and gift card) . Ate lunch and am headed outside to plant my new veggies, clean out the chicken coop, finish painting and then attaching hardwarecloth to the strawberry protecting cages and.... then I'll probably be out of daylight!! :lau
Oh, speaking of strawberries, all 26 of the root/crowns I planted in the garden area already have green leaves coming up!!! :love

Edit to add: Well I almost got everything finished today! The only thing I didn't get done was putting the hardware cloth of the strawberry cages.

We have been having off and on trade showers for the last few days. I don't mind that at all... mater of fact, I love it, cept the mosquito's are thick as can be. We also have a cold front moving to our North that will cut our trades so i've been spraying the roosts and some fluffy butts and legs w/ Ecovet to keep the girls from getting attacked and maybe sick from bites.

Played in the garden a bit yesterday. My last batch of seeds all came up. I also direct seeded a few things and in pots too. Under the circumstances, it is time to quit playing around and get my garden on. I do not have any potting soil and don't consider it an essential item so, I took some "amended" sandy loam out of the chickens run, added horse poop and compost and was able to plant the nice orange Hibiscus my DIL bought into the nice big pot my gal pal made. Now, it can live without being in danger of monster chicken attacks... I think. I tossed the rest of the amended soil into a chicken dug garden box. All is well.

I separated the teen chicks from their mama. Mama was not only leaving them, she started to "go after" them- more so than the rest of the flock. W/O her protection and guidance I decided they are mine now. So they have their own mini coop where they can have peace next to my sweet baby chicks. I am slowly becoming a better, more equipped chicken keeper- but, what a movie.

I want to know what celebrity spewed the great idea of raising chickens for meat and eggs to the general public who bought it hook line and sinker.
Idiots. They aren't going to house them properly, or feed them properly, keep them warm and hydrated, or the dog will get them, or the neighborhood fox, or will be pissed when they turn out to be 80% cockerels, NOR wait 6 plus months for one egg per bird. PLUS, I want to see Billy Bob Suburbia catch, kill and eat the chickens his child has all named and played with for the past 12 weeks. OH and they're more likely to get salmonella from playing with the chicks than CV19.

NOT ONCE have our markets been out of chicken or eggs.

Now grow a tree and start making toilet paper....then you have a plan!

Did the garden today. New compost is all down and straw on top of that. Now I just need to et seedlings started sometime next week.

I planted a sole cabbage seed in the middle of the lemon seed pot, since the lemon seeds were doing NOTHING. I had to have something to watch. Well Mr Cabbage came up yesterday. He must have said something encouraging as there is a lemon sprout this afternoon. :barnie They're just going to have to co-exist for a while.
