What did you do in the garden today?

To be very honest I have reached out to my old battle buddies over this. I honestly think the guy is a blowhard, after all our "conversation" was filmed via phone by one of his daughters with his wife on the porch and the other daughter in attendance. It felt kind of Jim Jones'ish. I didn't curse or use any modern vernacular so that is a total plus on my part. These are some strange arse mental freak neighbors who think going to church on Sunday absolve them of all their sins. I am so going to find that church someday and put mini truck nuts on his car! :D I bet the retard is some level of a deacon there.

Aloha @karenerwin , can you tell if this is the same/similar creeping violet that you used for your syrup? Mahalo in advance for the response ;)

I am terribly sorry but I might be the last person awake stateside right now. That looks like frogweed/a duckweed variant but bigger to me, is it growing on top of a pond? Personally I would skim it and call it compost and sell it with the horse manure.

After that I will use it for meat birds. I can’t believe the price of chicken in the grocery store.

I just ordered meat birds (12) for a mid May pickup. They were sold out until then. But, this way I was able to order all males. They said their phone has been ringing off the hook with orders, and I had to try to call 3 or 4 times until it rang through. We plan to order another batch in late Aug/early Sept for an October harvest for winter eating. We are also going to build a meat pen for meat birds separate from the other chickens.

@Wee Farmer Sarah the price of everything is insane if we can even get it. We just ordered a 1/4 of a cow & there is a month & a half wait for that! Crazy times.

@penny1960 looking good!

I'm very glad I have great neighbors, that whole situation would scare me, lol. I hope he settles down & sucks it up & just does what he should. My biggest neighbor problem is they feed the wild turkeys & so the bears who have been tearing up chickens all over town.

The pullets are 18 weeks old, still a month or so out of lay I would imagine. Should I just wait to integrate them till they are a little more mature? It really isn't a big deal to keep the separate, just a little easier if they were together.

Grass needs mowed , car needs repair , lumber to mill . Sowed more wildflower seed . 2 plum tree grafts are growing . Busy time of year . I need to get my green beans and peas planted . Planned it for now and just as well on the peas as the weather has not been warm enough for a early June pea harvest . Shooting for early July . Going to plant in a chicken run as it is fenced . Darn rabbits love bean plants . Need to till for bean and pea planting as soon as it is dry enough .

Good rainy morning gardeners. I'm not sure if I should build the new chicken pen or a boat. Good grief, so much rain. My new babies have arrived. They all seem healthy. I did have to wash some poo off one of their bums this morning. Otherwise doing well on the front porch. One of the good things about putting the brooder out there, I can open the door and pour the poopy water onto my azalea bush. Yesterday was busy with picking up the chicks and the supplies from the feed store. Then my mail carrier knocked on my door with an armload of mail and packages. OK, I think it was @TropicalBabies that was asking about shipping here on the mainland. Sometimes the tracking information is off. The last time I checked, these packages I received yesterday hadn't shipped yet. But they were delivered. Oh well. One of the items was my little orange tree. I have a nice pot for it out in the potting shed, but it's too soggy to walk out there. Yesterday when I was checking the things I had planted the day before I noticed the ground was super soggy. I'm sure it's much worse today. After this rain clears out tomorrow morning we are supposed to get 5 days of dry, somewhat warm weather. That's crazy your neighbor feeds the wild turkeys @Sueby. Have you put up some electric fence to deter the bears? There are bears around here, but they haven't come onto my property that I'm aware of. The wild turkeys pass through from time to time but never really linger. Next week is going to be quite busy getting the garden planted and working on the grow out pen. Absolutely no work outside today so I will get some more flower seeds started. You might try letting the pullets free range "mingle" with the older girls and see how they get along @Sueby. As for the skyrocketing meat prices: if you don't have a rooster, get one and an incubator. This is crazy stuff. Have a great day everyone. Oh, and here is a quick "peep" show. More to come.

@Wee Farmer Sarah this rain is crazy, isn't it? We had a mallard duck in our yard this am. SWIMMING!! :lau

I can't really free range them because of the hawks, but the pen is 80x25 so they have a good bit of room. They are doing ok today, as long as they move when the mean girl gets near they are ok. If not she chases them. I put tons of roosts & logs & pallets out there, & a pile of mulch & lots of feeders so everybody can hide & have something to do.

We have not dine electric fence yet but have been thinking about it. I'm hoping between sheds, tractors, vehicles, fences it's too much of an obstacle course to get to the coop & he sticks to the turkey food.

LOVE the babies! So cute!! We cant even get them around here, people are hoarding chicks! My neighbor raises meat birds but is on a waiting list till summer. I couldn't have a rooster, too much of a neighborhood. When we retire...

Hoping it warms up soon so I can plant the darn garden!
