What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. Yay for new chicks! I'm sorry to read a few you have had some losses though :hugsNot much doing in the garden today, just watered a few things. We went grocery shopping for meat because the coolers are starting to empty; after my daughter stocked up on some frozen stuff for the kids the freezer can't hold anything else. Went to Home Depot for pot saucers, I feed my flock FF in the big ones. While I was there I picked up Greek oregano and sweet mint; the oregano will go in the ground, the mint in the pot that had nasturtiums. I've increased the watering schedule for the hibiscus to 3x per week like I'm watering the grass and it's doing much better :yesss: The Gladiolus are sprouting too. Didn't get the grass planted but hubs has to work tomorrow so I'll do it in the morning with the other chores. Enjoy the rest of your day all!

Sorry about the baby chicks. It stinks. :(

I got 6 Brandy Boy (Brandywine Big Boy hybrid) tomato plants in the mail today, woot! San Marzanos should be in soon. I'm planting bluelake greenbeans for the first time this year, if it ever warms up!

@Wee Farmer Sarah I'll have to look & see if I can find someone around here. I sure have the room for meat birds.

I don’t plan on doing the butchering. There’s a guy up the road in New Hampshire that has a USDA facility that does it for $5 per chicken. Considering he deals with the feathers and clean up I think it’s worth it. Disposing of garbage in my town is a PIA. Btw: the rain stopped and the sun is peaking out through the clouds.
OH that's TOTALLY worth it! I'd raise them for meat if I had a butcher.

Perhaps on your next road trip you can stop by for a dozen fertilized eggs.

To be very honest I have reached out to my old battle buddies over this. I honestly think the guy is a blowhard, after all our "conversation" was filmed via phone by one of his daughters with his wife on the porch and the other daughter in attendance. It felt kind of Jim Jones'ish. I didn't curse or use any modern vernacular so that is a total plus on my part. These are some strange arse mental freak neighbors who think going to church on Sunday absolve them of all their sins. I am so going to find that church someday and put mini truck nuts on his car! :D I bet the retard is some level of a deacon there.
I had to show this to my hubby @AllenK RGV. He was laughing so hard he asked me to get him a beer. We have some mental freaks around these parts as well. And all of them have dumb ass dogs too!!

Ok. I think our 5yr old matriarch has gone broody for the first time since 2019. She wouldn't sleep with the others last night. She's sitting on 5 eggs right now; I usually let her set on 10-16. Her name is "Fanny" as she is a pain in the you know what. Here's a pic of missy fan fan giving me stink eye 😜

Aloha @karenerwin , can you tell if this is the same/similar creeping violet that you used for your syrup? Mahalo in advance for the response ;) View attachment 2116880View attachment 2116875
The blossoms look correct but our leaves are a bit different and ours aren't vine-ing. I would be willing to bet that it is a similar variety of wild violet. However, I suggest asking around and finding out what it's "local" name is and then googling that to see if it is edible!
Better safe than poisoned!!

YUP! I do every year! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! They are prolific and smaller than paste tomatoes so you don't need to cut the crap out of them to get them in the mill. I puree them as fast as I can pick them and freeze the puree for later.

I also use them for making the most amazing pizza sauce!!

Slice them lengthwise for non drippy sandwiches.
Slice them fine for ON pizza.
