What did you do in the garden today?

Some pics of early season garden:

Turnip and beet bed. Beets on lower half of pic. The two empty Turnip rows are where I had to replant viable seed.

Green Manure crop of Yellow Blossom Clover. We won't let it get very tall or flower. We are just growing this in the not-so-great large 20x30 garden bed to help boost the soil. We plan let it grow, then till it in and then plant some crops by mid-late June.

My SAD potatoes that got really frizzed by that 25F low temps. We covered them with soil, but that was not enough protection for such low temps. This is a week or so after that low temp.

More frizzed potatoes, but these look slightly better.

Curious chicken trying to see if she can get into the straw to lay her egg. See the large paver we have on top? Yes, bc we've found eggs there before!

What my deck looks like every day. Just a few more days and I can hopefully get my plants in the ground! In the little greenhouse are some melon seeds that have sprouted, and some extra starts I couldn't put into larger pots bc I ran out of pots.

This all looks really nice. I think your potatoes will bounce back. Remember last year when the groundhog munched on my early plantings of tomatoes, lettuce and peas. I replanted and they grew as well as the remnants of the munched on plants.
I’ve not had much relief from lidocaine on insect bites @penny1960. Diphenhydramine works fairly well as does witch hazel and cider vinegar. I haven’t used colloidal oatmeal in years. I always worry about clogging my pipes.

Good morning gardeners. @Sueby and @Wee Farmer Sarah those are hubby's new toys, he does the laundry. Yesterday was crazy busy but it was a beautiful evening so I worked on the path in the xeriscape garden until dark. The chickens hung out and played in the puddles while I watered. I'm hoping to work on it more this evening when the area is in shade. I got all the broken bits out from behind the shed, today we'll trim some lattice that's now accessible and put another wall around the compost pile. Here's path progress, have a great day all!
Great looking like the staggered look

@Acre4Me your garden looks great! That yellow clover is growing wild all over our property, our chickens and rabbits LOVE that stuff, you might consider keeping some for fodder use.

I hear this, I have learned more about starting seedlings this year than I had in the past 50. Big one: up-potting is a thing and I will never throw away an empty pot again.

And I have had a thought (a dangerous pastime) about seedling pots. I've always used those peat jiffy pots filled with bagged seedling soil. I've had good results but when I plant them in a bigger pot or in the bed, that peat pot sticks up and blocks water and nutrients. I've taken to tearing them off at least part way but I'm afraid of damaging the seedling's fragile roots. Next spring I think I'll use the plastic 2" seedling trays. I didn't see any in the stores but I know I can get them online. The plants easily slip right out and the roots are immediately in contact with the new soil. Anyone have opinions on plastic vs fiber seedling pots?

@igorsMistress I love how you've done that path. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Today started lovely and warm, even a little sun. I got more re-potting done, cleaned the coop, took the bounty from the rabbit cages out and shared it out in the garden, fed worms to the perch, planted the celery seedlings in the raised beds, and then the wind whipped up and the storm hit. I ran to the coop and watched chicken tv for a while then ran to the house. We had fresh kale for lunch with bacon and garlic. It was funny though, some of the kale had developed tiny stickers on the underside of the leaves. Cooked up fine though.

Oh and does anyone know what is wrong or what to do with my wax bush beans?

I looked on like and it said not enough nitrogen but there is a lot plus I've used some liquid high nitrogen fertilizer and it makes no difference at all that I can see. Tempted to rip them out and start over.

I managed to get the writte fenced stained to the wooden one across the front of the duck pond. I need to staple it across the remaining 55ft of the wooden fence that extends sides the front of the garden.

I'm not sure I mentioned it here, but I got a load of compost from a small farm the next town over and dumped it in a section of the garden that measures 27ftx10ft.

Good evening gardeners. Pathway progress was made today. I bought a border in the garden center and used 8" spikes to pin it to the ground. Then we pinned the end of the path with rebar to keep it from moving

I filled in with the rest of the broken pavers and some rocks. Not quite done, tomorrow I'm raiding the compost pile for dirt to fill it in. We have some solar lights to put out there and eventually I'll buy caps for the blocks.
