Chicks. I started with 6 shipped eggs, 3 were infertile and one DIS. I was playing with them after work today, no gardening.

Didnt even think about squirrels honestly...we dont have a big population of rascals (thats what my daughter has always called squires). But we do have a good number of chipmunks. Ideas for deterrents?
Hi! My mom used to put a pole across the top, connecting the towers. It worked wellpole beans grown over the top of their towers
Those are gorgeous chicks! They stay tiny and that cute for such a short time, thank heaven we can take pictures.Chicks. I started with 6 shipped eggs, 3 were infertile and one DIS. I was playing with them after work today, no gardening.
Bless you and your wife for rescuing them. Maybe she'll be grateful and behave. HAHAHAHA, just kidding, it is a silky after all. Here is a picture of the broody our neighbor dog discovered Friday evening. Fortunately that neighbor dog is in love with me so she was easy to call off. 24 hours later though where she was hiding her clutch though they would have probably died from the flooding?
So pretty, I just love the soft dove grey colors as well as the black ones. What kind are they?Wait, how did these get in here?!
Love that sudden nap attack. Now that 3 are hatched, they are talkative even more so, then they fall asleep for a few moments.
No worries! They're supposed to be Ayam Cemani. Supposedly pure but I doubt it. I'm irritated but it's not the chicks fault. It could indeed be water plus critter, as others have suggested... @WthrLady may be right about the hoppers, too.
So far as the chipmunks, I've both sprinkled the bed with cat hair and sprayed leaves with a sriracha-water mist. It seems to help, anyhow.
Also, squirrels (AKA rats with fashion sense) are not to be underestimated. Wily little buggers...
Lovely babies @igorsMistress! Please pardon my forgetting, but what breed are they again?
@Compost King, I imagine those peppers would make a lethal fermented hot sauce... Using them as an addition to beans sounds tasty, though!
Your dessert sounds delightful, @penny1960. Hope you enjoyed it!
Pulled a bunch of greens (including nasturtium leaves) to go with tonight's dinner and tomorrow's breakfast.Wild thunder and lightning storm rolled through, dumping buckets of rain, immediately after. Was more concerned about the chicks than anything... They are, of course, fine.
They do display good melanistic qualities. I am thinking I might need to add something like that to some of my Sumatra lines to get their faces right at some point, but would hate to mess up the combs. Also I am not a serious breeder you will never know until you eat them. The silkie roosters with bad attitudes from my "breeder" do not have black bones according to my preferred re homing recipient. No worries! They're supposed to be Ayam Cemani. They do indeed, one has a little bit of pink on the toes but otherwise it's the white in the feathers that is disappointing. I'm not a serious breeder either, I just thought it would be fun to have melanistic Nns. I am waiting impatiently on a waiting list for some Egyptian Fayoumi chicks. Heat tolerant and Marek's resistant is a good combo. They do display good melanistic qualities.
