What did you do in the garden today?

OMG so cute! And what is that plant with the long spike of flowers on it? The foliage looks like banana but I doubt that's what it is. It's gorgeous!
Kahili Ginger. It is an invasive plant up Koke'e but truly amazing for the next 2 months.

When we go back up i will try and get more photos with a better perspective of this fabulously invasive creature. We usually pick a bunch for our vases and our friends vases. The flower and perfume lasts a long time.

That made me hungry just looking at it. My favorite garden Vegetable would be peppers. They look so much more appetizing when they are red. I even like to let my Jalapeños turn red. Green Jalapeños are hotter but they look so good red. I do the same with Seranos when I grow them. I let my Pepperchinis turn red to save some seeds but I may eat a few to see the flavor difference. They seem to be more of a brick red than a bright red though.
Peppers lol. You are pretty much the Pepper king ;) Gorgeous creatures but too hot for this sissy, don't know how tastebuds handle. I am a sucker for horseradish though, especially Wasabi!!!! :p

@NewBoots - thank you! I hadn't thought about parm for the chips!

Ya'll ever had a tomato plant that didn't produce a single tomato? I have a San Marz that looks great but hasn't had a single fruit! It now has some flowers on it, we shall see. The others are all producing great. :idunno

Morning all. Not much happening, just took a walk through the garden & grabbed some pics.
Some mushrooms at the garden gate that popped up overnight:

Have a great day everyone.
When the flowers are on the tomato plant, I lightly shake the flowers, this is suppose to help pollinate (this came from an older neighbor). I get tons of tomatoes. Maybe try this to see if it helps.

I don't know if it counts as gardening, but when I was out taking care of my sister's rabbits, one of her dogs caught a sparrow. She just stood over it until I came and rescued it. I let it rest on their screened in porch with some bird seed and water, and after a few hours, encouraged it off the porch (it probably thinks I was chasing it), and it nibbled something in the garden bed for a minute, then flew off! I'm very happy this one made it (even if it was missing its tail feathers, amongst other feathers) because the last one this dog caught died.

Fabulous garden harvest!!! So exciting to see. :love Big mahalo for beautiful garden shares!!!

My peppers and eggplant are barely hanging on and Sour Sop is most likely dead. BUT the good news is I have some viable seeds from my White Bird of Paradise and our Starfruit is going off!

Yes, they are self pollenating. I do this in the evening before the night dew sets the pollen to the other flowers, and after the wind of the day settles down.

This is why in years we get a lot of rain or a lot of wind we get fewer tomatoes. Pollen washes and blows away and not always to the right place.

I met my match with the Carolina Reaper pepper. I didn't even eat the seeds, just the skin. And I had the skin all chopped up finely in grated Cucumbers. I struggled to finish that meal because it was so hot. It was so hot I will never do that again. It would have been hotter with the seeds. I saved the seeds to see what you get the next generation even though its a hybrid. Maybe the Ghost Pepper, Jalapeño, Thai or Cayenne peppers it was grown around pollenated it and I end up with a rare gem of a new hybrid.

I won't eat a Carolina Reaper whole and by its self, I will only cook it in a large slow cook meal.

I have also touched my eyes after cutting one up, its chemical warfare, its that hot. I was in a Tear Gas chamber in basic training and this was almost as bad as that.

My guess is hornworms. They don’t leave the leaves, they just eat right through the entire thing and munch on green tomatoes too.
Horn worm poop though is like 8 lobed. 2 on each side and well formed that looks just like wet splatty stuff. I'd still get out the BT for whatever it is. The picture in this article shows like 16 lobes I don't examine the droppings that closely before I go on the attack. http://www.walterreeves.com/food-gardening/tomato-hornworm-droppings/

I think you are looking for an avian or mammal culprit. The only other thing I did notice is you have a couple of bore holes into one of you ripe harvested tomatoes @NewBoots

Hornworms is my guess too. Sometimes they just eat the entire branch & you don't even know its missing!!

It never had any flowers to speak of! Just a completer slacker plant - every other one was fine.

I made some sugar free strawberry rhubarb jam today from the rhubarb I've been hanging onto for a couple months. I tried my new Pomona pectin & I really liked it. Got 6 pints out of it with no sugar to bulk it up!
