What did you do in the garden today?

That is a shame. I have always been wary of mail order plants. -But a friend of ours ships hibiscus all over, and he can manage to do it and keep the plant alive.
Figs root easily, do you have a neighbor or friend who has some? Air layer would work too.
Or are you looking for a specific variety?
I was going to mail you some sweet potato, but these don't make tubers, just leaves.

Quote: AKA, It has been my experience that the better quality plants go out the door early in the season to those customers that ordered early. IMO having received items that I purchase on the last sale days of the spring, almost all die asap, or arrive dead. As in shipped dead. Grrr. WHy waste MY time by shipping dead stock????? As for two that arrived in ok shape: We planted the 2 peaches from a reputable seller, and neither grew. Well, one has a shoot from the root stock. Hoping it will grow so I can someday graft on to it.

I pl an to order early next time to take advantage of the early bird sale prices.

Got over to friends house this afternoon with DH and my 2 kids and supplies to build a small bed for gardening. My boys jumped right in and that got their buddy to chip in too. THey dug a hill to flatten it and removed all the weeds. Nothing like boys going full tilt with an ax and shovels!! lol DH made a second run for more supplies as firend wanted it a bit bigger. WHAT EVER SHE WANTS!!!! If it gets her to start gardening. Gosh her kids dont eat veg and few fruits. Built a frame from scrap 3/4 inch plywood about 6 x 5 , leveled the native dirt and amended with 6 5 gal buckets of compost, and then had the friend level it with a leaf rake. Sure hoping he will be willing to try a few veg if he helps build the bed. ( FIngers crossed) THen friend said:" I'm overwhelmed, I dont know what to do". I thought this might happen. Well, get your seeds and we'll get them planted. ANd bring the tomato too. ( WHich I had gifted her with upon arrival, lol ) We talked layout a while, and she p icked settled on one she was happy with. In went the snap peas, lettuce, one tomato, and several rows of black simpson lettuce. And then she started watering it all in!!!!!

I'm hoping with a little support she will stay with gardening despite the ups and downs yet to come!!

Came home and planted 9 tomatos; 1/2 flat of watermelons, and brought a friend bush buttercup seeds and 4 chili pepper plants and got morning glory seeds in return!!

Hurray!! Seems like your climate is ahead of us this year. What do you do with the berries???? I never seem to get further than eating them from the tree. lol

I eat them straight from the tree also . Still a kid inside . I used to spend hours eating them as a kid .

I had half of my last corn planting not come up.

Beekissed thank you for link

Did you get this years seed? Corn isn't that good if it is stored over a year and the germination loses 25% (at least) per year.

My corn looks really good this year but I haven' gotten in the garden because we loaded a 500 pound hog and it took us all day. We finally had to put a rope around its nose and pulled it inch by inch into the trailer. It broke the first rope and we had to get a stronger one. Then it ripped up the floor of the trailer and stood on the ground. We had a time, but finally got it sold.

But we did get two nannies, a barrow, a gilt, brought home a little cash.

The seeds were all purchases this year for this years planting. I am about ready to plant some older ones to at least get some for grilling. I am done with the seed company not feeling it for their products.

I am done with them- much of their corn and other seeds don't germinate. I am just a little put out with them. This is the second season buying from them and it is going down hill. I ordered 2 months ago or longer. They could have bren honest then. Done with them. Live plants from here out will be local. I'll find another seed company.
