What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. I’m a mess today. Was slicing taters with the mandoline and cut off a 1/4” chunk of finger yesterday. What a mess! Grossed out the kids :gig and went through a few bandages before the bleeding stopped. It’s in a weird spot on the side of the tip of my finger and I had to use some self adhesive wrap to hold the bandaid on. This morning Abby pinched the same hand with her teeth while we were playing so more blood was lost. I can’t plant anything like this, my gloves don’t fit over the bandage so all outdoor plans are delayed by a week:ranti am watering now and will get Frankenwagon moved today and get the row cover cloth cut for it but that’s about it for the garden. I also have some basil I have to plant today, going to enlist the oldest kid to help with that.
We spent our bucks at the feed store yesterday and I’m so proud of myself for not buying any chicks! All I needed was Timothy hay for the buns, a mix of alfalfa and orchard grass for the coop and some alfalfa pellets for the ducks. I have more than enough duck food and we order bunny food from Chewy with our dog food.
K, need to move the hose to a new plant and make something for breakfast. Have a great day all!

Yikes. Hope your finger heals up soon!

If it starts bleeding again, put a tea bag (any kind) in warm water and then hold the tea bag over the wound. It will stop the bleeding and help with any swelling.

Injured fingers - makes me cringe just thinking about it! Hoepfully you heal up fast @igorsMistress!

@BReeder! - seeds are quite expensive, especially the small packets. I figure after this year, I'll need to buy less as many seeds have 2-3 year shelf lives. I bought potato starts already - since last year they all sold out online (broader variety selection) before Covid had much impact. So, I purchased some and they were quite pricey, it seemed to me. Then seed packets all add up, not to mention its hard to decide on only a few. But, I think I'm done...I hope I'm done... OK, actually, I hope I can just resist temptation as the catalogs roll in.

So...In a past house I had some Tree Peonies - these take 5+ years to start to bloom, they remain above ground with a woody stem, they produce HUGE blooms that tend to be very fragrant, and they do not attract any ants. Anyway, I am thinking of buying some, but not quite ready to do so yet as I have not finalized where I would plant them. I was doing some research and they are $100 + per plant as for what I am finding. Not too surprising as all I have found have been ones that are a few years old or older. When I bought my first ones (around 2000 or 2001), they were first year growth and cost about $20 or $25 each. I planted them at our first home. I planted 5 of them, I recall, but only 3 grew. Then when we moved, I took the three of them with me as I knew they were getting close to blooming age. Well, only 2 lived through the uprooting and transplanting. But, amazing every year. We left them behind (slightly regretting that, but we were not moving into a house at that point bc couldn't find a good one when we were moving).

I posted this pic before - but here are the tree peonies at my last house, with a little friend for size comparison.

It seems to be ok this morning but thanks for the tip! I didn’t know a teabag would do that.
