What did you do in the garden today?

omg, I am already behind and garden season has barely started....lol. I still haven't started any seeds. I also have some onions that sprouted in my onion drawer. I moved them into some water to grow new roots. They've needed to be planted in some soil for at least 2 weeks now...and I haven't had any time to do it because I've been swamped with work.

I'm about to hit a 4 month long busy season at work. I'm fearing I will get to busy for gardening, but I'm working from home still and the days are getting longer so I'm hoping to still be able to garden after 5pm, when work is supposed to stop.

I think I need a new variety of green bean. I did the blue lake this past year & am not a huge fan. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of the purple ones so they're easier to pick.
I grew both purple (not sure which exact variety) and Dragon Tongue. The Dragon Tongue out performed the purple by quite a bit. I think they are more of a wax bean, but I thought they were tasty too.

It's fun to cook the purple ones, though. They turn green and the water is aqua-to-bluish. If you have small kids, you turn that into a magic trick... :)

Last year, I blanched and froze about 20 quart bags of beans. I like them so much better than canned. And so much easier to do, too. No pressure cooker, no jars, just blanch, chill, and put into bags. I could do a big bowl of them in less than an hour.

I did order two Yacon starts....very excited about those! :drool
I never heard of yacon. I just looked it up. Sounds interesting. A large sweet tarting tuber that grows in quantity beneath a flowing daisy that's hardy in zone 5-8. Lovely to look at while it is flowering and tasty to eat when harvested. I wonder why it's not more popular in backyard gardens.
