What did you do in the garden today?

My motto is if it has teeth it will bite, if it has claws it will scratch, etc. Never forget that it is an animal and they cant talk. They cant tell you they're scared or to get off their property, etc. I love all animals, but never trust them fully, ever. Even my own super sweet tom cat. Sorry George! 🤣🤣
Animals do communicate though...just most people don't take the time to learn their body language and signals. I think SO many animal attacks, especially on kids, could be avoided if people took the time to learn how to read their animal and know when (s)he's asking for you to get the kid away, etc etc. My kid learned as a toddler, because I taught him, that when our cat started twitching his tail it meant he needed alone time. And if he went to pet our dog and she moved her head away, she was saying "no thank you." Anyway, sure I'm telling you guys things you already know...but it frustrates me SO much when people post "cute" videos of their kids harassing their dog. The poor dog is usually BEGGING for help.

True, but some kids would not listen bc they just want to let the animal.

Our cat (lives in the barn) definitely tells us she’s in the mood or not for pets.

Yeah, my kid didn't always listen...and then I would intervene. But I truly think a lot of people are ignorant of animal body language, and it's a shame. It puts the animal in uncomfortable situations that all the humans think is fun. And then they are shocked by an attack "out of nowhere."

I learned the hard way as a kid. I still have 2 faint lines on my upper lip from one of the cats we had growing up. But I didn’t bother the cat like that again.

I have informed the toddler, not that he necessarily understands, that if a cat bites him or scratches him because he antagonized them: it's his fault. I have also told the cats to lay down the law if need be and I'm not fast enough. So far nothing has happened beyond toddler getting hissed at by the top cat, and one small accidental scratch that was nobody's fault.

Forgot to mention that the raspberries are showing signs of life. Last year the raspberry bed went absolutely crazy, and they're already coming back. Second year canes! I'm going to miss out on it all. Ah well. It is what it is, and we have to move!

Oof yeah, scar on my shoulder from running up to my neighbor's dog to give it a hug. One big chomp later, my Dad was like, 'guess you'll never do that again'....yeah Dad I'm 8, couldn't have warned me??
