What did you do in the garden today?

Must rant...

Last year, I grew Red Baron onions. I bought sets at the local grocery store's garden section. Hubby LOVES them! I must grow them again!

Grocery doesn't have them this year. So I order from Gurney's. The "updated" ship date is May7-27. Ok, late-ish, but this was after they said March 31-April 14.

And what pisses me off as much or more is all the JUNK mail I'm getting, since I ordered online. Mostly garden stuff, but I'm not going to order from Brecks. Or Bits and Pieces. I only got the onions from Gurney's because I couldn't find them from my usual ordering places.

GRRRR.:rant:duc:mad::tongue End of rant. I feel better now.
I’m sorry you’re having a crummy experience, I didn’t have a great one either. My potatoes were shipped about two weeks late, I didn’t get an email or anything, and when they got here about a third we’re soft and beginning to rot. I could smell it when I opened the box.

I woke to a nightmare .. Bf starts the day with birds and dogs .. We know the dogs will maul the chickens so they do not go in the chicken yards .. Someone did not tell the chickens again :rant
Snow crazy white dog had the barred rock in her mouth by the head, feathers all over the yard :idunno3 more in the garden
I’m sorry Penny :hugs

Good evening all. We’re prepping for summer here. I took the panels off the coop today and we put up a strip of lattice to provide some cover to hide behind at night. Don’t want moisture building up in there with the heat. Tomorrow I’m moving the pond liner into the small yard where it’ll get more shade in lieu of building a shade structure for it. I need to make a spot in the freezer for making blocks of ice this weekend. So far we’ve reached 99 here and it’s possible we’ll get to 100 this weekend :hitI pulled the parsley and cilantro today, the bunnies and ducks will enjoy them this evening. Everything else is still holding on. The squash is looking really good But it’s still on the small side. I’ll have to water a little more often until everything is done for the season, oh joy. The duck buckets are great for watering shrubs though. I’ve been alternating with gross water one week and clean the next which seems to be working well. Time to get the ducks to bed and feed the bunnies. Have a great weekend all!

Got my second shot yesterday and no reaction other than a slight headache last night. Walmart messed up my pickup order so instead of picking it up today I'll be picking it up tomorrow. That left today to get the lawn mowed so I got about two thirds of it done and gave a couple bags of fresh green grass and sweet clover to the chickens and they loved it of course. Oddly (to me anyway) the rabbits didn't want the clippings. n the greenhouse, the bok choy and a Japanese green (I forget the name) were not sprouted this morning but are sprouted now and I've started fertilizing the various sprouts that are a little further along. It was a lovely day but I actually had to water the raised beds this morning so I'm ready for a rainy day or two.

My favorite is Toad Suck, Arkansas. Saw it on the way to the Grand Canyon as a kid, never forgot!

All right, got the garden cleaned up as planned, and then did a head check on the plants. Thyme, Lemon and regular, are both coming back. The rosemary might not.

I live about 30 minutes from Toad Suck... 😂 I can send you a t-shirt.... 😂

I have informed the toddler, not that he necessarily understands, that if a cat bites him or scratches him because he antagonized them: it's his fault. I have also told the cats to lay down the law if need be and I'm not fast enough. So far nothing has happened beyond toddler getting hissed at by the top cat, and one small accidental scratch that was nobody's fault.

Forgot to mention that the raspberries are showing signs of life. Last year the raspberry bed went absolutely crazy, and they're already coming back. Second year canes! I'm going to miss out on it all. Ah well. It is what it is, and we have to move!

I had built up a really nice raspberry bed at our old house. We moved last year to a new house. I toyed with marking the raspberry bed with a sign so the new owner would know what it was... Never got around to it. Drove by about a month ago and was sad to see they tore it all out.... Too bad.

I started a new raspberry bed at the new house. Next year I should have some great hauls of both red and gold raspberries.

Hey @TJAnonymous we might end up in Arkansas when all this moving is done in a few years! I'll laugh my butt off if we end up in Toad Suck. We are growing more fond of the state the more we learn about it though. Very promising for the lifestyle we want to live.

I was never particularly fond of the golden raspberries personally, but DH and DS both seem to like them well enough. They'll probably be something we grow eventually, especially since a clamshell of raspberries at the grocery store just about makes my wallet faint.

My DH and I both grew up in northern Indiana/southern Michigan. We moved to Arkansas in 2003 to take care of my grandmother. It was a bit of a culture shock but now we absolutely love it, although I still live in a dry county.... 😂
We are very outdoorsy people. We love fishing, camping, hunting, kayaking, etc and there's LOTS of that around here. We love the low taxes and good standard of living. In 2009, we built a 5600 SF house on almost 7 acres for $415,000. (Of course we sold it and moved closer to our kids school.) The mountains are great. The state has been seeing a large influx of people who move here from high tax places like California and New York. But so far we have remained mostly under the radar
