What did you do in the garden today?

Morning all. Cold out there, 15 degree wind chills. I turned the heat off a couple weeks ago, even the dog says NOPE!

I have 9 trays of beef jerky in the dehydrator. Another habanero sprouted, but I'm thinking it was an accidental hot cherry since it came up so quick - I saved both at the same time last fall. :gig Guess I won't know till it produces!

Not supposed to get above 40 today, we'll see how motivated I am to get the beds in place. I think they're going to work well for what/where I need. You can see where we started to dig out/level on the right, going to extend the fence around that area & incorporate the new beds & the blueberry & gooseberry bushes into the garden.

I'm excited to have so much more garden space (they're 80x40 in ea). I was going to do both beds with strawberries but now I'm thinking one strawberry this year & who knows what in the other!

Got my purple pole bean seeds in & started the rest of the habanero seeds I had left.

@Elyrian1, I probably missed it... where are you moving to? Are you getting your "elbow room?"
We'll be one step closer to it. Going to spend some time in Texas, get the heck out of Colorado. Every time I turn around the cost of living here has gone up.

Plan is to live and work there a while before moving for the elbow room.

@WthrLady you are forgetting “Needmore” road in Dayton.

when we lived in WA and would visit the Olympic peninsula we always laughed about “Kitchen Dick” road in/near Sequim, Wa.
OMG the The Needmore Road! YES!
LOL!

Grocery as soon as I'm done chugging down oatmeal.
I planned to finish weeding the garden today, but Kansas is burning Flint hills, and I about coughed up a lung doing chores this morning. The smoke is THICK here, I was not wearing my dust mask though.

Tomorrow the'll be no wind and the greenhouse is going up if I have to wear 9 masks to breathe! I have No more room in the seed shed and have a LOT more to get started.

Phew, got the beds in & everything cleaned up & wood chipped. I got everything as level as I could, it's hard on a hill - the beds got a little flimsy in the middle when filling too. Just need DH to bang in the fence posts when he gets home & I'll redo the fence. I filled the beds quite full expecting them to sink - I put a lot of wood chips in there under the dirt. I have a couple tractor buckets full of dirt left too because I'm so not a good judge of what will fit where.:gig

Well, turkeys are 9 days old, and 1 died. It never really grew like the others, so I was figuring it might not make it. So we now have 5 poults. Still inside, one more night bc of below freezing temps. Then it will be out to the barn!

the 6 week old chicks are integrating well! They have begun to eat pellets. We are giving both crumble and pellets since some transition faster than others.

the 8 month old male was sexually harassing one of the hens today...she was screaming as he wasn’t being a gentleman at all...grabbing feathers, hanging on while she’s trying to escape. And he hasn’t figured it out yet, I think he had hold of her tail feathers..a last ditch attempt at keeping her there? Thus begins the awkward teenage phase.

transplanting pepper starts to larger containers today.

Just back from town. The seasonal pop up tents of flower/ veg sellers have set up and are open. All the big box and groceries and tractor stores are selling flowers and veg. LOL IT's WAYYYY to early. Average last freeze is About 22 April, and no one really does anything until May 1st, and even then it can be slow or dangerous going.
May 20th is usually safe.
