What did you do in the garden today?

only thing worse than slugs is Ducks they smell and make a mess
No. No. No.
Ducks are awesome!

They do mess up their water and like to splash it everywhere, but they are lovely animals to have. I'm letting ours out on the lawn this year during the day. That should help to keep them from being so messy in the run as they'll spread out more. I've also learned some things in my ducky journey. Raise their pond, filter their pond, use bedding in their run that can be composted later. These steps help make ducks less of a messy to own and aid in keeping them healthy.

As for slugs and snails, ducks LOVE them. I only get small slugs about 1-1.5" long. I've never seen a large slug here. The ducks eat any creepy crawly they can get though.

:rantS-L-U-G-S- :barniethey eat everything-- I have noticed we dont have as many frogs this year, it may be early, I have only seen 1. I am not hearing them either. I have seen way more slugs than usual. I had to pull them off the Black Cohosh, the Bergamont, lettuce, the Echinacea,,, and more. I have been using diatomaceous, it does help,:he but HOLY COW! I need more frogs.
Are frogs supposed to be eating the slugs and snails? I can hear lots of frogs in the evening and early morning and we have crazy amounts of snugs and snails. I use Slug-go since it's non-toxic, the chickens which do a pretty good job of eating all the snails and any slug smaller than a banana slug, and I just ordered some bait things to use with beer.
My cucumbers are the one crop that just hasn't done anything. It looks like the plants haven't grown a bit.
My cucumbers are just sitting there pouting too. Maybe they're slow starters? I've never grown them before so I guess I'll see.
You need ducks.
EVERYONE needs ducks. :)
ASPARAGUS question:

how big of a space? I’d give it its own raised bed, on top of the ground. Pretty sure it puts out deep roots, so it could do that.
Like @Wee Farmer Sarah, I'm not too experienced with asparagus but I planted half of a 4 x 8 bed with one root thingy and a bajillion seedlings last year so I'm learning too. I do plant tomatoes carefully in the same beds since bare ground gives me hives. :)
No plans for the day except taking the dog to the vet. She goes in at 11 and stays the afternoon for bloodwork, and x rays. She'll either come home with steroids or, sniff, not come home.
She's been a lucky dog to have come to live her last year(s) with you. And what a great thing to do with the extra tomato starts.

Watered and moved around potted stuff to make them easier to maintain, found about 18 or so 1 gallon pots (under the stored pavilion cover) so more tomatoes got up-potted, tossed the never-gonna-get-planted-tomato-seedlings, hung out under the now covered pavilion with a sweet neighbor, and came in for lunch. It's beautiful if a bit windy outside so it's about time to go out again, the ladies are pounding on the door of the run.

Back home WITH the dog.
She has pulled/partially torn her other knee. We have NO idea how. We knew it could happen since that knee took over the weigh and wear and tear of her life when she blew her left one 18 months ago, and her other owners ignored it for so long.

She won't be having surgery ( we made that clear to the vet when we adopted her 9 months ago), but is drugged to help her heal. She'll have her good days and bad ones, just like everyone else in the house. LOL We ALL have knee problems.

Her meds should make her feel good enough to eat and drink again, which will put her kidneys back on track. She's so achy she doesn't want to eat or drink, but you'd never know it. She hasn't made a peep.

So there we have it. We hope it all straightens out.

Well, no luck finding horseradish yet. I tried Sprouts and the local farmers market. I did buy a walking onion since some of you guys have been discussing them. Trying to decide where i should plant it. I have a 20 gallon fabric grow pot. I thought I might start there and then scatter little bulbs somewhere else later. Any advice?
I've only found horseradish at whole foods.

My experience is that allium family members will grow wherever however. This includes in the pantry in midair. Also, I have seen horseradish from baker creek, but I don't know if they have stock right now.

County wildlife called me back. He suggested carrying an umbrella around the yard until the hawk is gone :hmm but recommended I remove the nest or the whole tree later in the year once she is done with it. I am feeling a whole lot better but still getting a mild headache in the afternoons.

Apricots are ripe, I only had 8 of them this year. Not quite as good as last year but still better than the store.

The grocery store garlic I planted in fall did well, I have about 10 full size heads and a bunch of smaller ones from a 3x3 plot.
